I just installed a backup battery to my alarm. My question is does the backup battery need to be charged or will it work right away? When I disconnected my car battery my alarm did not go off. So either I installed it wrong, or the battery needs to be charged. Does it charge by leaving the car running for several minutes, or does it charge by arming the car alarm? Thx

Possibly wired wrong. ARe those things chargable? hmm.

sometimes they will require a charge.. if it still doesnt work i think you may have it wired wrong cause once you disconnect the main power to the alarm brain it should trigger the alarm and keep the alarm going off.. if you have never done it may be a little confusing to wire the correct way..

The alarm won't go off when you disconnect the main battery because the backup battery is supplying the alarm with constant juice. The only thing the backup battery is supposed to do is keep the alarm active so a triggered zone will set it off.

The only thing that I could think of that is wrong is the backup battery has a blue wire that needs to be connected to a negative trigger, and I connected it to my alarm's negative hood pin trigger. Anything wrong there?

p.s: how long does it usually take the battery to charge when driving the car?

your wrong.. it will to set off the alarm.. ive seen it done, installed them like that, and mine does it also.. chances are the alarm will already be going off cause you should have a hood pin also..

There's a difference between a backup battery and a backup siren.

I installed the alarm myself. The hoodpin and trunk trigger wires arent used. I tried to wire to each, but neither worked. The only thing I could think of now is that the battery needs to be charged, i already driven for 30 minutes but no luck. Maybe I got a defective battery.

btw: This is a dei 520t backup battery. When someone disconnects the main battery the backup battery has a circuit that instantly triggers the alarm making the siren go off. I wired the backup batteries trigger wire to my hoodpin trigger (which was not in use). They are both (-) wires. Does anyone have any idea why it mite not be working?
