-= AMBER Illumination Kit for an ALPINE Stereo =-
I have a ITR so I want to make my alpine "Green" keys to illuminate "Amber" like
the image below. Does anybody know if its possible to modify the leds inside or
if there is some kit to do this?
Here is the stereo I just bought.
Thanx in advance if you all know anything. Im sure there are others who would also like to do this.

I had the CDA-7876 and that changed colors...green or amber.
I think you can still find them floating around eBay every now and then.

What model Alpine do you have? I have the 7894 and it changes colors you might want to check your owner's manual.

I took a brief look at your owner's manual online. It doesn't appear that the illumination is switchable.
I think you have two options:
1. take it apart, and swap out the LED's that light up the buttons. I'm not sure how (if at all) tinted the buttons are. If they are tinted a strong green, this may not work.
2. buy new buttons from http://www.pacparts.com - they may/may not offer just the buttons, and you may have to buy a face with the color buttons you want....
I would try the led thing first, but be careful and make sure you have the proper leds to make this work. I personally have no clue how to do this, but if you are good with a soldering iron it shouldn't be that hard...

It all depends on how the faceplate is lit up, as far as the Buttons go its either LED's or small Bulbs. Most newer radios use LED's where as some older radios used to have small bulbs and you could pull the plastic covers off the bulbs and replace them with a different color. LED's are a whol other matter, they are not your normal LED at radioshack they are the very small surface mount LED's like inside a Cell Phone. From what I hear NOT easy to solder or desolder them, although I haven't tried it yet. The Display looks like you could use a Color filter in behind the plastic to change the color closer to orange.
I'm thinking of trying to convert my Ecplipse CD8051 to Red colored Display to go into my Audi, it uses those Surface mounted LED's I still have to seach online for a site selling those LED's but if all else fails I could buy one of those cheesy Cell phone covers or batteries that uses those LED's and swap them into the Head Unit. I still have to try to get a Tech sheet from Eclipse to make sure of the Voltage of the LED etc. I also have to find a color filter for the Display (I could live with a Blue display but Red Buttons) After all of that some of the buttons on my unit might not even light up red but might have a purplish red color to it as the plastic has some blue in it.
All in all it is NOT an easy job and Not one to try if you have never worked with electronics. You have to be Crazy to even try

The old 7894 had dual illumination. If you could open it up, I don't think the color of the buttons will be a problem since the 7894 had green buttons, but didn't look green when switched to amber, although the display doesn't change colors, just the buttons.

When I took my 2002 CDA7892 apart I got off my roommate in exchange for his cut of a years Direct tv to clean up all the soda off the faceplate, the bottom buttons (1,2,3,4,5,6,f) had leds with little green condom like thingies on them that were removable.

I have an Alpine cd in my car now, not sure what model but its old. Have you tried holding in the display button? On mine, if you do that it will change the color. I see a display button in the upper left of the ppicture you have, it might be worth it to try it if you haven't yet.

Yeah, the CDA7894 was awesome, I had one for a long time. We've done this before, and changed from green to blue. All we did was open the face, and the LEDs where just covered with small, rubber "condom" type things. A guy at work knew a place to get different colors, he did, we put them on, and magically, it was blue lights! Unfortunately, I do not know where he got these, but Il'l ask and let you know!

If you have the money for a new deck and you can wait, just a few months until the new cda9835 comes out. it's still mostyly black, is a swingface sorta replacing the cda9815, but it has a biolite display. And you can choose from 4 different colors on the buttons/illunination and tune it to 512 different shades.
