Default SHG_Felliphe's EG Hatch Build Thread

Welcome! This is my 1992 Honda Civic Si that I bought 06/12/07 when I was still a Junior in HS. I've always wanted one ever since I was 13 and I wasn't going to settle for anything less than an Si. When I came across it I had to ****** it up as they are hard to come by around here in good shape and it had a good balance between condition and work needed. I had it in storage till October 2008 when I finally was able to bring it home. After that it sat in my garage until I got it registered in August 2009.

The philosophy here is to build a car with the utmost balance between street and track while keeping it true to its heritage. Due to its mass produced and economy nature, the car has superb potential for improvement.

I want to restore the car back to original shape with some upgrades here and there, nothing too aggressive for now but just a nice simple and clean ride and when the money starts flowing in I can always keep improving it! I will never sell this car and destiny permitting will keep it for the rest of my life.

"Real happiness lies in the completion of work using your own brains and skills." - Soichiro Honda

Thank you for reading! All feedback is welcome

These are the pictures from the ad.

When I brought it home:

The first thing I did was pull the spare tire and clean the the trunk up.
The day after I went to the junkyard and got me a handbrake cover, a hazard button that was in a lot better shape and windshield wiper nozzles+hoses. I also installed the new OEM shift boot that I got from Majestic Honda.

Then I cleaned the engine bay, you dont want to know what it looked like before!

Favorite picture:

Then winter quickly came along!

Took out the lip to install the hardware correctly.

Then the snow started melting...

Got a lower steering cover.
[IMG][/IMG]

Went and cleaned all my Si wheels inside and out!

The weather started getting better and then I got my sister's D700 and did a mini shoot!

Then I moved to a new place and started to put in work. I wanted to get the car back to stock form since I always liked the styling of stock Sis.

Bought an OEM steering wheel with airbag and cruise control buttons along with a clockspring, OEM axleback, traded my spoiler for an OEM one in teal and I painted that and threw it on, got new OEM mudguards, OEM corners and painted my OEM lip.
Note: I didn't use the clear.

At this point I had also done a bunch of misc. things like getting an o2 sensor, stripping green paint from seatbelt buckles (ricers lol), replacing blown fuses, get the seatbelt on sensor to work, got hoses and nozzles for the windshield washer to work since I didnt have those, put on zipties on the bumper since OEM hardware sucks and a bunch of other stuff I'm forgetting about.

Went and washed the car and then polished it. Also have window visors installed here.

The hood always had a bad fitment and it was really dumb looking. I met up with a fellow HT member and I got myself a Milano red hood and stripped that. Also got a set of 4 OEM Si 14'' steelies with hubcaps on winter tires along with the hood.

Got this as well.

This won't be a fast build as funds are low but it will always have updates and something going on. Thanks for reading and heres to good build!

Yeah man, it's been the #1 thing I've wanted to change for the whole time after I got it ready for the road.At first I couldn't find a black hood since hatches and coupes are rare around here so nvm someone trying to sell it. Then I had to settle for someone selling it in a diferent color, found one in good condition and I got that.
So far I've been trying to strip it but it takes a lot of work and time. The top is stripped completely, then I'm doing underneath which will be a PITA because of the way it is underneath.
Washing it after all that, then sanding then primer and then off to the shop.

JDM corners right there...

Cleaned my wheels on the outside and the tires after that picture and stripped the hood even more.

I want to clean my FITV but the bolts are really stuck on there and won't come loose. Ive tried WD40 and now Im spraying PB blaster every day.

Been working on the hood, wet sanded the top part with 80 grit sandpaper but still need to sand it more to remove all the primer but its bare metal for the most part. Then fine sand it with high grit sandpaper to make it smooth. I plan to send it off to paint on Tuesday hopefully. I have Monday and Tuesday off so hopefully I'll get it done.

Hey man it looks like its coming along nicely.

BUT.. You don't need to strip the whole hood for it to be painted lol. Just feather all of the low spots and your set. Why do extra work?

Thanks man. I'm really tight on money so as much as I would love to paint it, I can't afford it. I would like to respray it though but then I would also have to take care of the rust and its just too big and expensive a job. So for right now its simply my daily. However I do not plan on ever selling this car so it will get a respray at one point in time hopefully!

Yeah man, I'm really taking my time and doing things once and doing em right. So this won't be a quick build or anything. Good luck on your project!

Yeah man. I noticed my car accelerates a lot faster with this hood versus the OEM one lol. OEM is 32lbs so I believe this is right around 15lbs. Very light. I'd like to get rid of it though! I think OEM looks a lot nicer.

I suppose I dont need to strip all the primer but I do need to strip the Milano red. I worked on it more today, coming along slowly but its such a PITA I always put it off

Painted my wiper arms also a few days ago and the window trim.

While I would, theres a few problems. 1)Theres a ton of dry tree sap on it, that **** does not come off easy lol. So theres a bunch of white spots on the hood. 2) the holes for the bolt are a bit larger than the OEM bolts used for the OEM hood, so you'd have to retap the holes a bigger size and use bigger bolts. Finally, its not painted underneath either, so its white. The fitment isnt that great over the headlights but it can be fixed by re drilling the holes a bit farther up.

After all that if you still want it I guess we can work something out.

I'm slacking lately. Painted my wiper arms and window trims recently. Im also polishing the rust off the lugnuts and thats about it. Haven't worked in a hood all week but I will soon.

Next up is shifter bushing and maybe some new wiper blades all around. Might get the car polished again.

Should be starting a new job soon so as soon as the money allows updates shall follow!

Winter plans:

-Get rubber washers for the steelies so that the hubcaps stay in.
-Switch the 99 Sis with the OEM 14'' steelies with hubcaps once it starts snowing.
-Acquire the necessary power steering components to install it back in.
-Investigate why cruise control doesn't work ( most likely the clutch interlock switch isnt hooked up).
-Polish header.
-Energy shifter bushings.
-Replace alternator belt as it has recently started squealing and squeaking at idle if its cold.
-Bleed coolant.
-Possibly bleed brakes as well.
-Get the hood painted.
-New hood release cable.

Threw on the 14'' Si steelies with hubcaps for the winter a little early since I got a flat tire Theres 2 big holes on the sidewall of the blown tire, must of been because it was old even though I did check tire pressure often and it was fine. Also worked on the hood, just some sanding left to do!

My alternator belt started squealing this week and today it must of gotten so stretched that it just sat there floating. Barely made it home, every component going dim/shutting down since the battery wasn't getting recharged.

PM'd you back.
