89 CRX BUILD IN PROGRESS (top to bottom; 5 lug, paint, body, power everything!)
UPDATED - 10-07-09
Cleaned and painted the engine. Talking with Ryan from Rywire about ordering a cleaner looking ODB0 mil-spec engine harness. The engine has been installed and we got it to fire up yesterday! I'll have a video up soon.
The car as it currently stands:
---------------------------------
What up brotha's
I think I've waited long enough to finally start my build. I've been into Honda's for only about four years now and I've been through over 15 Hondas in the past two years alone (R.I.P: my beloved 07 Civic Si). And NO I haven't crashed a single one of them...
I currently have two CRX's in my possesion (recently junked the third) but by the time I'm finished, I'm hoping to have one CLEAN SiR styled CRX.
Let's get this party started!
CRX #1 ('88 CRX DX with a Single Cam non-Vtec ZC):
CRX #1 parted out. Gutted the whole car and then junked it...
CRX #2 ('88 CRX Si with a 97 LS swap):
I sold the engine...unfortunately the engine wire harness got chopped while the engine was pulled so the wire harness became useless. Someone also chopped the dash harness off of the firewall, adding to the complication...
I discovered that there were some pretty bizarre problems with this car. I don't know why, but every time the wheels turn (even if it's just for a few feet), it will literally snap the driver's side axle's end. I broke two new axles...So with all of these problems along with the wire harness issue, it became very apparent very quickly that working on CRX #2 wasn't going to be an easy task.
So after the engine bay was pulled, I decided to place my 88 Si into my garage where it shall sit indefinitely (I didn't wanna get rid of it because it's a Clean Title Si).
And so finally...I bought what I hope to be my last CRX. The star of the show...a 1989 CRX Si.
Here are my plans for the car (I'm going for a daily driver / sport / pseudo-luxury theme):
- Body shop (painted white)
- B16A SiR
- Full Interior (black with red stitch Si-styled theme)
- AC/Heater
- Power Mirrors
- Power Windows
- Power Steering
- 5 Lug Conversion
- Lowered
Unfortunately, I didn't take any pictures of it when I first got it. It came with a single cam VTEC mini-me swap (now sold), extremely slammed on coil overs, and the rear was already gutted. So I went ahead and began gutting the rest of the car.
I plan on taking the interior out of my 88 CRX Si and putting it into this car.
On to the pics:
The dash that came in this car is all chewed up, so I took it out. I'm gonna have to source out a decent dash:
Dash out:
While gutting the car, my cousin and I found a HUNDREDS of baby black widows...along with a **** load of full grown black widows. I was too freaked out at the time to take any pics. But I decided to bug bomb the car. > Some more pics:
Notice the orange bug bomb canister in the middle of the car...heheheh
I bug bombed the car about three times in total, and we went out to buy some more pesticide.
I sprayed a perimeter around my house. I sprayed inside the engine bay, wheels, control arms, bumpers. You name it, I sprayed it.
The craziest thing was that the female black widows weren't dying. Those little bastards ran through pesticide like it was just water.
So we decided it's time to annihilate those little mother ****ers
For the next week, my rex reeked of pesticides. I haven't seen one living black widow since. So now I'm moving on to the bumpers, fenders, and engine bay.
Next, I took the bumper and bumper support off and I found a ton of spider webs, black widow eggs, and dead black widows.
I'm glad they're all dead. That proves that the pesticide is working. =D
Radiator out. This is actually a pretty decent radiator; it looks new so I might use it again with the swap:
Beat up core support (the "T"); I'm probably going to replace it with the core support off of my 88 CRX:
Driver-side fender out:
Stay tuned homies. Lots more goodies to come!

B16A SiR1 Engine (bought it off of keenspeed94, thanks bro )
B16 Tranny
OEM SiR Shift Linkage for CRX B16 (needs to be cleaned)
Pr3 ECU (also picked up a virgin P28...don't know why):
Brand spakin' new SiR Front End (picked up the last one at Password JDM)

Re: My '89 CRX Si/SiR build (ground up! 56k beware)
Thanks guys!
Here are some more parts I got:
OEM SiR Rear Spoiler and Rear Wiper and Motor; this is an actual OEM SiR wiper and motor that will clear the spoiler. Got these off of robdog74 (thanks man!)
Brand new black CRX carpet:
Picked up this CLEAN black dashboard off of a guy on craigslist for 50 BUCKS!
I'm not sure if this dash is off of a Civic Si or CRX Si or what. The seller claimed it's off a CRX Si, but I thought the CRX dashboards have a gray end.
Stay tuned. More parts and progress to come.
I'm working on taking off the last fender, vacuuming the inside, and cleaning the exterior before taking the car to the body shop.

Re: My '89 CRX Si/SiR build (ground up! 56k beware)
Thanks guys, I appreciate the feedback; it's pretty motivating
Got some more work done today (progress slowed down a bit the past few days because I caught a major cold, but I'm getting better now).
Got both fenders, headlights and corner lights out:
The headlights, my tools, and some other misc parts I pulled out of the engine bay:
Luckily, the headlight brackets are in pretty good condition (the headlights and corner lights sat straight on my rex before I removed them, so these brackets are keepers).
This engine bay's a mess...still got a lot more work to do...
Movin' on!
Took out the brake master cylinder and brake booster. There's a problem though...
Master Cylinder's rusting (gonna have to replace it):
Looks like I'm gonna have to replace the brake booster too:
Driver's-side brake lines removed (didn't grab enough pics, I'll take some more later)
Driver's-side Door Panel removed:
I'm gonna need to buy new door panels because the ones in this rex are all chewed up. The previous owner literally hammered nails into the peeling door panels...
It's hard to see, but trust me...this door panel is ****ed up:
After much contemplation, I've decided I'm going to gut as much of the car as I can; I almost got the whole engine bay gutted. I'm going to try to remove everything I can in the interior before I take the car to the body shop. Next step is to remove the body wire harness.
Began removing the dash harness:
Removed the moldy firewall padding and began unclipping passenger side harness
Slowly getting there...
My girlfriend helping out, haha.
She's removing the side and rear harness.
...and she did a pretty good job!
I also replaced the T-bar (radiator support) with the one from my 88 CRX Si...
...but that one turned out to be pretty beat up too, so I ordered a brand new one from Honda Parts...I'll have to wait until that comes in before taking my rex to the body shop.
Luckily, it'll give me more time to finish gutting the car though; that way I don't gotta be impatient about the body shop...hehehe
Oh, and my girlfriend's complaining that the backyard is starting to look like a junkyard. This is some funny stuff:
But I don't have a choice...because I'm out of room in my garage =(
Stay tuned guys, much more to come =D

Re: My '89 CRX Si/SiR build (ground up! 56k beware)
Some parts that came in or I picked up recently:
Used JDM SiR hood that I got off of JDMCarBoy. It's dirty as hell, but otherwise in great condition (no dents or dings). It was worth it for the amount I payed:
Ebay Push Start button...not sure if I'm gonna use this. It is a lot cheaper (in quality) than it looked on the ad. I might get an OEM S2K button instead:
EK Type R Steering Wheel. I'm not sure if I'm going to be able to make this fit - or if I'll be able to remove the air bag from it without losing the face plate. I really like the look though, so I'll try to make it fit. It'll fit great with my black on red-stitch interior color scheme:
My '91 CRX Si Engine harness came in (got it off of some guy on ebay). I really needed this as I sold my old engine harness with the single cam v that came with my rex. Woohoo MPFI!
Brand spankin' new OEM rear upper area cover (go Honda Canada!):
Brand spankin' new OEM CRX side moldings (I love Honda Canada...haha):
Didn't realize how much stuff you can buy at Honda Canada that Honda U.S. doesn't sell anymore!

Haha thanks!
I'm still working on taking out the body harness. Next I'm gonna remove the taillights and rear bumper. I wanna make sure there are no more black widows; that's pretty much the only concealed part of the car there is left.
More pics to come homies!

Re: My '89 CRX Si/SiR build (ground up! 56k beware)
I order my parts from T&T Honda. They ship to the U.S. (special order).
http://www.tandthonda.ca
Call or email the parts department and see if you can speak with Randy Workman. He's my point of contact for T&T. He even hooks me up with some OEM parts that aren't even made by Honda Canada anymore (not sure how he does it).
Oh, and it helps if you have your part number and desired color too (it makes it easier for him to pinpoint the exact part you want).

Re: My '89 CRX Si/SiR build (ground up! 56k beware)
Thanks homie.
Yeah, for the engine, I think I'm gonna go with a skunk2 build, AEM fuel rail, cold air intake, and a type R flywheel and pressure plate. I already got the flywheel and pressure plate (haven't taken pics yet).
Some more progress:
Still working on taking off the wire harness and some steering parts...
Got the driver's side door harness almost out:
And a couple of parts that came in...
Brand new OEM CRX rear mudflaps (I still need the front ones)
Left Hand Drive Power Steering rack:
