H Rookie's 90' CRX build (EDM/JDM goodness inside)
So i have been here for a while, but never put up a build thread for my crx. I wanted to be able to show more of what Ive done before I made one. My car is more of a slow build I bought a year ago. I'm seventeen and money tends to come in slow at times. The car is currently in the final stages almost ready for paint. Ive spent many nights working on this car and went through many moments of grief with it as well. There is many things that I have had to come to accept with the car. Things that if I knew at the point of purchase, I most likely wouldn't have bought it. I wouldn't of ever bought it if i knew the car had the roof replaced at on time. I may do things or buy things that some of you don't like, and I'm okay with your opinion, but keep in mind I'm building this car on a budget and how I want to.
My car is a DX that came with a B18a1 swap that didn't run when I bought it. I didn't think it was a big deal. Even though my cousin and I had spent many nights trying to figure out what was wrong with the wiring. After 4 months of playing with a pre-hacked wiring harness, I finally lost hope and pulled the engine out planning to put it in my ej1. But then in the middle of winter I found a pre-converted wiring harness. So then after ending up getting one of those because I didn't feel like buying another DX harness and taking the chance to screw it up, it finally started for me. after this I got in the mood to buy stuff for it and keep it.
Enough with the words eh? Pics are worth a thousand words...
^This is when I first bought it, off the ad online.
^This is a pic of the front and interior the next evening after I brought it home.
^A few weeks of trying to get the engine to start while doing bodywork. I also had been spending some time cleaning up the engine bay. The VC was originally silver and had nasty lines running everywhere.
^Turns out I found a parts car for $300. So I robbed some parts out of it. As you can see I converted my seat belts and changed my steering wheels. I had a set of Si seats that came with it that I dropped in.
After waiting for so long to try to start it and feeling more like a failure than ever, I decided I was going to part with it and put the engine in my ej1. That idea changes soon after hearing the first engine rev.
^The first drive. Yes it might of just been up and down the drive, but it was fun. Heater works very nice. Gotta love my poorly mounted rear bumper...
^I was always paranoid about my front not being straight. So I decided to correct that with a new bulkhead.
^ Bought new oem rockers because mine were rotted really bad. Other than that most of the car was fine.
^After doing quite a bit of work on the exterior I decided to continue working on the interior a bit. I didn't like that huge guard above my gas line, so I drilled the spot welds and polished the ring I was going to use as well as the gas pipe itself.
^I grew to like the look of the FLP race shifter (aka. telephone pole) in various Hondas, thus I bought one for my car. After buying this I started collecting more parts from around the world that I like.
^ my EDM tail lights are the first thing Ive imported into the states. Sporting the mint rear fog light.
^Then my JDM fenders and headlights (not shown)
^Next the EDM bumper
^ My EDM bumper and JDM headlights
^ After getting my hood in, it completed my front conversion
^After seeing the front fit so well I had to do something about the back, so I made my own light weight bumper support.
^Saved some money and bought southern doors and a 90' rear bumper. Then decided to get the guys rear disc conversion too.
^Unfortunately, after taking a friend out real quick to show the car, I skrewed over my JDM hood, but noticed the nice primed fenders!
^Started digging into my replaced roof to clean it up
^Prepped and primed the roof at the same time as the rear quarter
^ Finished body work on the driver side rear quarter and primed it
^ Bought my cousins momo seats.
^ Finally my new jdm hood came in. ohh the jdm madness..
^Decided to build a rear tow hook for it. My ej1 is sporting it until then though.
^Soon after doing the rear quarter I finished up the driver side.
^Maybe a month later I started seriously working on getting the passenger side done. ohh, and do you like your bondo over-easy or sunny-side-up?
^The passenger side is officially done now.
^ And in between this I made my custom seat bracket, completely from scratch.
So thats where I am now, but I'll throw in some recent photos that are neat

Re: H Rookie's 90' CRX build (EDM/JDM goodness inside)
UPDATE:
Well I guess I'll put up some updates even though it doesn't seem like this seventeen year old's build is much of a hit.
^ Here is an interior pic with my mats mocked up
^ Another pic of my mats up close. It's sad that my setup cost $60 lol
^So I wanted to make something to put on there for the four point harnesses I'm going to be putting in, so I fab'd this up. (also stiffens the body)
^This is the latest update, this weekend I put the car up on the wooden frame I made and tore it down. I've removed almost everything except the engine. Excuse my friend for jumping into the pic lol

I look up to you guys that restore rusted EFs. I'm so glad I stay in the south, don't have to worry about rust.

Re: H Rookie's 90' CRX build (EDM/JDM goodness inside)
so its been awhile and figure id give an update.
^Yea finished painting the bay. Notice all my chassis wiring has been located along the frame rails
^Took a trip to the local TSC and bought Ford Grey as an interior color (pretty cheap, and decent paint)
^Modified my B18a1 valve cover. its actually a metallic burgundy. its a bad pic..
^laid down my base
^My only decent pic after I laid down the clear
^Engine mounted with the beater cover on
^My edm taillights mounted along with hatch and refinished garnishes. (if you can noticed the garnishes are completely shaved of any lettering)
^Close to as it sits now. but ive been working on it lately so this is a little old..
Recently I've changed valve covers and installed most of the front suspension I've been slowly installing parts to the interior, but just waiting on the a/c delete duct and firewall plug from Heeltoe Auto.

Re: H Rookie's 90' CRX build (EDM/JDM goodness inside)
lol as you wish
^Soo I thought it was safe to install my new valve cover. Yea I know the bays a bit messy still
^My telephone pole, just need to wire it lol Actually for the hefty price you pay, I don't think they're that bad. I mean I was only playing around with it in the car a bit and am happy with it.
^By now your probably like yea yea, now cut to the good stuff already.. welll here you go, the most current pic of my car. Notice the over flow radiator jug has been tucked, and its probably hard to tell, but I have one of the rear disc brake sides on.
So the plans for tomorrow are to finish project t-bar and start on the other lower control arm. Monday and Tuesday will be painting my bumpers and mounting them!
