Default is it worth putting in type r cams into b16 without valvetrain upgrade or tuning?

i have b16 second gen jdm motor running on odb1 chrome chip set on a base map. other than header and 2.5 inch exhaust and intake car is stock. i found a pair of type r cams for 250 and have my motor apart (in the middle of doing lost motion assembly) and wa wondering if its worth getting these. i wont be tuning it or upgrading anything else yet due to budget. but if i can pick up maybe 7-10whp for 250 without having to tune, and without issues im game.

question is can i still run these safely without tuning or doing valvetrain upgrade for at at least a bit? il keep rev limit at 8200. or will i need to dyno tune or adjust timing a bit? i understand that without tuning it wont be at its full potential but can i safely do it without hurting motor. just want to drop it in and go.

thanks

Yes you can do it. It would be best to get the R springs at least. People have ran those cams on stock valvetrain and reported no problems however. You should notice a decent gain. Earth shattering? No.

Yes it should make a gain. But a tune will "unlock" more potential. Without valvetrain you wont be able to get the max potential out of those cams either.

14761-P73-J02 SPRING, IN. VALVE (OUTER) (YELLOW) (NIPPON HATSUJO) $5.57 $44.56
14751-P73-J02 SPRING, IN. VALVE (INNER) (YELLOW) (NIPPON HATSUJO)

they re only 82 dollars

take your intake dual valve springs and pt them on exhaust side and find another set of intake dual valve springs from a gsr

or buy the actual type-r intake springs for 82 dollars plus shipping

Personally I would not change cams without a new tune...

I had Blox As in a stock B18C1 for quite some time with no problems. Closed loop mode had no trouble running the cams. I avoided VTEC until I could get a tune and when I began tuning I found that at VTEC crossover at WOT and at very high revs the GS-R map became dangerously lean. At milder throttle openings and lower engine speeds the GS-R map was perfectly capable of running the cams.

For DD I think you'd be fine for a while but if you want to use the potential of the cams or safely use WOT you need a tune. IMO you might as well pony up for valvesprings as well, as there's not much point in upgrading the cams if you aren't also increasing the rev limit.

spring rates are not same for dual and single. valve float. for those cams unless you can keep yourself in low RPM
which i know i cant lol

and i dont think a set of ITR springs would kill you

at least get another set of gsr/b16 dual valve springs. still safer than stock exhaust springs i can push them down with my thumb
