Default Whats so good about high compression?

Ok im a little on the newbie side of hooking up motors so please understand. But i just reacently bought a 92 h/b with gsr head and b16a2 block with new pistons and rods. It has a 11:3 compression. My question is whats so good about high compression motors. and do i need to replace the retainers and valves to run 40shots of Nitrous? Thanks

i think 11-3 can run 40shots...make sure not 100shots...lower the compression to 11 would be nicer though

no, you dont need to replace the retainers and valves, just make sure you have it tuned

Higher compression should mean a more efficient motor, which results in more power. Characteristics of pump gas are what keeps compression from being higher. I'm not sure what valves and retainers have to do with nitrous...can someone explain this to me?

higher compression and nitrous are meant for each other, he could put a 100 shot wet kit on that with a good tune and be safe, i have seen to many people do it, and today there motors are still running, nitrous just makes it burn hotter, it dosen't force anything into the combustion chambers.

Actually in a couple ways nitrous does "force" more oxygen into your cylinders. First it has more oxygen percentage wise than air. Secondly the rapid expansion from liquid to gaseous form of the nitrous oxide cools the intake air increasing its density (which also leads to more oxygen in the cylinder).

As for what is so good about high compression, it is one way to raise pressure inside the cylinder to create more force on the face of the piston and get more power out of the engine. High compression, boost, nitrous, and any combination of the above all serve to raise cylinder pressures and increase power output as long as they are accompanied by the necessary fuel/timing adjustments that are needed.

You can run as high as 12.7-12.9:1 and still sqeeze 100-150. Tuning is the key.

what oct gas ??? and is the timing retarted like crazy?

maybe some c16 and some real cold plugs . .

edit: also what pistons are in there ?? wouldnt your cr in a b16a2 with a more restrictive gsr head be higher then 11.3 ?? unless your got diff pistons or the like . .

I may be alone in this, but I'm one of those guys where my camshafts determine the amount of compression I would run.

haha, len just stumbled onto something nobody else has even thought of...camshafts.

high compression makes the engine rev up quicker, create more power, operate more efficiently, and eat a little bit more money.
