Please Help Diagnose Compression/Leakdown Test Results
Ok, just did a compression test and leakdown test.
Cyl #1 - 180psi
Cyl #2 - 200psi
Cyl #3 - 200psi
Cyl #4 - 200psi
Results based on about 5 engine crankovers.
Now Cyl#1 has a 10% difference between all others.
Leak down result on Cyl#1 shows about 6% leak on SnapOn leakdown tester. Now I can hear the leak in the following areas:
Intake Manifold - Intake valve not sealing properly
Dip Stick - Leaking past rings
Oil Cap - Valves or valve seal
Cyl#3 - Possible head gasket sealing problem
Radiator Cap removed - No signs of bubbles.
Exhaust - Cannot tell, header and exhaust not removed.
The cam gears are not set at 0,0. Would this cause the leaks to the intake valve? Do I need to redo the leakdown test with cam gears set at 0,0?
Additionally, the car does not smoke out at all.
Here is a photo of the reading on the snap on gauge and engine set at TDC.
Any thoughts to what can be the reason and what needs to be done to correct the compression on Cyl#1.
Please post your thoughts.

Re: Please Help Diagnose Compression/Leakdown Test Results (Tech6023)
Ok, but any reason to why I am off on Cyl#1.
3% difference in compression between cylinders is understandable, but 10% is kinda large for me.
I know the leakdown shows only 6% leak, but compression difference between other cylinders is 10%.
Any suggestions or ideas as to why???

Re: Please Help Diagnose Compression/Leakdown Test Results (DEMNTD1)
could be all typs of stuff: any one of the afford mentioned that may not be sealing or perhaps rings that moved around and yes they eventually will after running an engine in time. or perhaps rings havent finished being seated. The % diffrence looks good While at the dealer I use to take brand new cars and leak them down and never saw anything better than a 10% diffrence. On my race engines I don't except anything above 5% but that is just me. I would say don't worry about it sooo much and enjoy your build Make sure to check valve lash and put the gears back to zero and re-test.

Ok Thanks for the info.
Ok will set cam gears back to 0,0 and recheck valve lash and do a retest.
I will post up the results with cam gears set at 0,0.

Re: Please Help Diagnose Compression/Leakdown Test Results (onepoint6i)
Ok, put the cams back to 0,0. Warmed up the car, set ignition timing to 16 degrees again.
Here is the results:
Compression test:
#1 Cyl - 190psi
#2 Cyl - 200psi
#3 Cyl - 200psi
#4 Cyl - 190psi
Leakdown Test:
#1 Cyl - 5% leak, can hear leak from IM, valve cover oil cap, #3 spark plug hole, dip stick
#2 Cyl - 2-3% leak, can hear leak from dip stick and valve cover oil cap
#3 Cyl - 2-3% leak, can hear leak from dip stick and valve cover oil cap
#4 Cyl - 3% leak, can hear leak from dip stick and valve cover oil cap
So it seems that results are not as bad as I initially thought.
Maximum of 5% difference between cylinders with compression test.
2%-5% leak with leakdown test.
Didn't have time to check valve lash. I will check valve lash hopefully today and if adjustments are needed, I will retest it again.
Again, thanks for your inputs.

Re: Please Help Diagnose Compression/Leakdown Test Results (SiR831)
I got the motor when it had about 8,000km so about 5,000 miles and now I added about 15,000km so about 10,000 miles. Total of about 15,000 miles.
Daily driven and Drag racing withit for about 2 1/2 years with an average of about twice a month. Haven't been drag racing for about 7 months due to building a new motor. But been doing Auto-x instead of Drag racing.
I guess I would say it not bad for the amount of racing the motor has seen.
Didn't get around to the valve lash. Hopefully today.

Re: (rtzcom)
Yup need to do some valve lass adjustments, lash on #1 Cyl 3 were too tight, 1 lash on #2 and #3, and 2 lash on #4 needed adjustments.
Leakdown still showed same results from about 3% to 5% leak with #1 having 5% and the rest were like 3%.
Didn't do a compression test, was too late in the night to crank the motor over. But I predict about the same readings.
At the end thanks for your inputs. I guess it was good that I checked the lash to do the needed tune up.
Running Toda cams so lash are set @ .2mm
