Performance motor for Lotus Europa

Performance motor for Lotus Europa
I am building up a Lotus Europa and was wondering if a vtec, which I have been told they can be modified to put out a reliable 350 to 400 hp(via turbocharging), would be a good fit in the mid/rear engined sports car. If so what trans I would need to get to take that amount of power?

If you buy one without the engine & trans, it is already setup for a K. The engine bay was designed for a K to begin with. It is just that Toyota gave them a better deal on their engines than Honda did. Drops right in.

if you decide to use the stock europa trans I can get ahold of an adapter for b series along with the clutch and flywheel. I have these they are one of a kind. a project my friend and his dad gave up on a long time ago.
makes it easier cause the car is a mid engine.

Re: Performance motor for Lotus Europa
Yeah guys the Europa is an older platform. Your thinking of the Elise which the k fits in easily.
Europa
These use longitudinal mid mounted engine.
Drove and worked on one many years ago. Its an awesome little car but would definitely require alot of chassis and suspension reinforcement for 350-400hp!
Having said that, I would probably go k series mated to a Porsche trans or similar. Fitting the engine horizontally would require a complete redesign of the frame.

My friends father is retired nasa and loves all these old cars. He scrapped the project.
The flywheel is a custom clutchnet aswell as the clutch.

longitudinal? Go with the best Inline 4 in the world. F20c S2000 engine. if not go for the best bang for the lowest buck and do h22.
wait how do you know that?

Re: Performance motor for Lotus Europa
The Lotus Europa i have is the older one (1973) it looks just like the one Furyof4 posted a pic of, i intend to resto-mod it into as serious a performer as i can afford, the frame will be strengthened and suspension upgraded. Cost is a big concern. I intend to mount the engine in a longitudinal position if at all possible. I have done a considerable amount of research on transaxles and have even considered attempting to go to a Subaru based 4wd system. But it really comes down to what I can find (preferably a salvage car) for a decent price in the Chicago area as far as what I will do for a drivetrain. The reason I posted on this forum is because I have found a wrecked Honda S2000 and need to know what I need for a trans (original lotus trans is not very strong) if I decide to go with that engine. As well as how to get more power out of that engine, and what that will cost to do.

If cost is a big concern, I wouldn't be worried about how much power u can make, i would worry if you can just get the thing running/driving on a small budget...do that first and then to make power just insert$$$$$

Re: Performance motor for Lotus Europa
I agree, the problem is that the original engine is seized and not worth rebuilding to me, but if at a later date it will cost big money to get that 350-400hp, and a trans that will hold up to it, then I will find a drivetrain that is cheaper to get to that level.
