Default Octane booster

I just picked up some JE 11.5:1 pistons for my H22. My friend who is putting my motor together said that I may need to use octane booster everytime I fill up gas because of the compression. Is this true? He is also unsure of how much fuel pressure I'm going to need. I'm a newbie to building motors so I need some help.

My motor:
JE 11.5:1 pistons
Crower Rods
Darton Sleeves
Crower Retainers
Crower Valves (stock size)
Stock JDM cam
Crower Springs
STR Fuel Rail
SX Fuel Press. Regulator

You need to get it tuned. with proper tuning 11.5 can be done reliably on pump gas.

But too answer your question yes the octane booster can help, however if you have it tuned correctly you shouldn't need it.

Your fuel pressure setting depends on what year h22 you have. Is it an h22a4 or a1?

It the JDM H22A. I will be running a AEM or Hondata FMU. Also, do you reccomend a certain injector cc? I was thinking around 370cc.

"octane booster" that you buy at any store is so weak that it only raises your fuel by 1 or 2 *POINTS* so 93 octane fuel is now 93.2 octane.

WEEEE!!!

So octane booster is definitely NOT necessary right?

Correct

Are they peak and hold or saturated?

Peak and hold prelude injectors run about 40 psi at WOT and saturated run something like 56 psi at WOT.

i don't think you have to worry about adding octane boost unless you have a compression of around 12:1 or greater, right now im a lil over 12.5 and i do use octane boost.

Thanks for everyone's help. I bought the pistons before thinking about those things. I hope everything goes well.

mix it with race gas.

i'm sure you'll be able to find a calculater/formula to figure out exactly how much to use of each on a website somewhere.

That would be toluene.

Forget the "octane Boost"

Toluene is your friend...but only if your running 12.7+:1 compression.

11.5? forgetaboutit. Tune it and your golden.

toluene is supposed to up you octane by up to 20 points, or so I have read. I put it in my newly acquired ls/crx to clean out some of the carbon and didn't have a problem. The only downside is its not too good on your o2 sensor, but neither is race gas. Oh yeah, my friend has a running, 93 octane, !3:1 b20 that has 40k miles on it and he does not use octane booster. Just a hell of a tune.

Now as far as the tuning you guys are talking about, has this been achieved WITHOUT the use of a fuel management system or is is absolutely necessary? I'm going to buy one anyway but I was just curious.

I'm not sure which one i should buy. I don't know the differences between the 2. Which one would be better for my app?

u can get it at ace hardware for 9.99/gal.. its expensive, but its the only store around here that sells it. home depot didnt have toluene, but it did have xylene which works the same way as toluene, but with a higher octane rating. ( toluene 114, xylene 117) according to vette.net. however, xylene is a little damaging to your rubber hose lines if used in more than 30%.
