Need to bounce some ideas..
I've got a 92 si hatch in my garage with a jdm b18c that is knocking. Long story short the previous owner spun a bearing, he stopped making payments on the car and the car was repo'd. My buddy's dad got tired of the car sitting in his garage (about 3 years) so he signed the car over to me. The car has been sitting in my garage now for almost 2 years and I just don't have a ton of cash to throw at this car. I've had too many other projects so this has been pushed down my priority list. I'm at a point where i would like to get this car running for as little expense as possible.
Option A: Tear down the motor *cross fingers* and hope that the crank isn't trashed. Replace bearings and put the motor back together. Use existing pistons, rods.
Option B: I found a gsr shorty with pr3 pistons for about 300 bucks. I could slap the jdm itr head back on it and call it good.
I've never assembled a bottom end before. I've done several swaps, turbo installs and I'm mechanically inclined but i'm a little bit nervous about tearing into a motor that i might not be able to put back together.
I figure either option I will need to replace all the gaskets, head studs, oil pump, water pump, tensioner and tbelt. If i can at least get the car running i might get excited about this little car and want to do more with it or i can sell it and move on.

I would keep the Type R bottom end. Tear the motor apart and have the rods, crank and block checked out and repaired if possible and it should be fixable with machining and over sized bearings.
