N/A build; valve question
im building my GSR head with supertech valvetrain minus the valves & blox HSL camshafts. I will be using skunk2 STD comp valves. Someone told me that i would have to get the valves cut? or something iuno i wasnt really paying attention and im confused about what he said. If that makes sense to anyone can you help explain to me exactly what that means? So im guessing i cant just install them right out the box then right?

Re: N/A build; valve question
It's recommended to have a valve job performed anytime you rebuild a head that's seen lots of abuse or mileage. Specially when you install new valves. Having the valves and the valve seats cut, installed height checked and guides inspected (valve job) to ensure the valves seat properly and clearances are correct will make or break your build.

The second vid made me feel like I was cutting valves in a gay club.
But good info though. The first vid is cool as hell!
Question. Why skunk2 valves over oem itr valves?

Re: N/A build; valve question
well as its been covered alot in a different thread OEM valves are better and hold up just as well.
so why spend 600 when 3 will work better.

Re: N/A build; valve question
Ive always used oem valves except for one time and the results were disastrous. I see alot of people use aftermarket valves and was just curious why they choose aftermarket over OEM. Im sure everyone has their reasons, and thats fine, I was just curious why thats all..

Re: N/A build; valve question
wait if i were to pick up brand new itr valves would i still need to have the valve machined? The reason i ask is becuase its OEM, so shouldnt it just fit right in WITHOUT machine work?

Re: N/A build; valve question
cool thanks man. would it make more sense to have the machine shop put the valves and the rest of the valve train in apposed to me doing it myself after i get the valves cut? i know how to put in valve springs and retainers just not valves. but i got buddys who could do that for me, im just trying to save a little money.
and if i do just have the machine shop do everything, exactly what do i tell them? " cut these valves and make sure they dont leak? " sorry guys i still am kinda new too all of this and thank you for your patients helpin out this newbbb (me) hahah

Re: N/A build; valve question
most shops include assembly of the entire head. valves, springs, retainers, cams, so forth.
but yes it would make more sense. they have the tools for everything and probably do it often. it's also usually included in the cost of the valvejob.
hah no. you'll want to give them angles of the seats and they'll do the valves to said spec. but they're smart they'll help you figure out what you need.
thanks ehonda for the link.

DUDE head to auburn. DG machine shop is one of the best in the state. They do ALL of speedfactory's work and have done mine and my dads for years as well. Great customer service and work. You would have it back in 7-10 days as well.
