Default LS VTEC IM: Victor X or Modded ITR?

Im looking for the broadest powerband in my oem bottom end Ls/Vtec. Since the Edelbrock specifically states the Victor X is tuned for a 7k-10k power band I began thinking the better bet to get the broadest possible powerband would be to use a ITR manifold bored to roughly 64-65mm with an aftermarket TB of the same diameter. It appears alot of people have had success with this setup.

Right now I only have a CTR intake cam but Im seriously debating skunk2 pro 1s or maybe m22xs as funds make themselves available. I will probably self impose around 8200-8500 rev limit to promote longevity as Im not gonna have cash to build a replacement motor right away. This isnt my daily driver so long run I dont give a **** when it goes, but I would like it to last a while.

I feel that the motor would definitely work well with Pro 1s and the Victor x but I also know that they will be atleast a month and a half away at minimum, the victor x will be cheaper (friend hook up) but at the same time the ITR may prove to be less of a headache and still make pretty good powerband.

Im hoping to break or atleast make 200whp but its only a number and no two motors are alike. Just looking to get a general concensus of what these types of motors usually like.

if you are going with an 8300 rev limit, even with pro1's i wouldnt use the victorx. that manifold is going to work best on larger displacement/higher revving engines race only engines. better choice would be the modded type-r or the performerx if you just gotta have the edelbrock mani. id def. do the type-r though, the money saved buying a used factory one or aftermarket replica versus buying the edel. would be half the cam money.

ps. ive had a highly modded stock gsr mani, victorx mani, and now a sk2 pro2 mani. sk2>gsr>victorx, on my setup which was a bit more aggressive than yours.

Jeffy is right you will benefit more using the itr manifold than the victor x on the setup listed...victor x's tend to like more rpm than 8300(with a 1.8ltr) along with larger displacment and compression

agreed^^^ use a sk2, itr, performerx on a setup like that. what is that head cut .040 for, jesus..

Head is milled 0.040 because it was previously decked at an angle. It was determined that .040 is the minimum required to make it true and to raise compression

Here's my old ls-vtec with with p30 pistons, pro1 cams, and Ib cut and ported itr manifold with maxbore 64mm throttle body. 206 whp 143tq

Wow! Thanks for contributing your dyno graph, great flat torque curve there. I would be very happy to have similar results! Its nice to see what a setup similar to mine would perform like. Does anyone know of any further comparisons. Bears Ek thread: https://honda-tech.com/zerothread/2174099 is a good post but the setups are pretty different from mine.

Does anyone have any links or dyno graphs comparing the two with a little bit similar setups? I think it would be interesting to compare the results of similar set ups running the different types of manifolds and how the power is shifted accordingly.

You will be fine with .040 off the head, provided you have some basic building skills. I would go with a ported ITR STYLE unit (skunk2 peice cut open and worked) or a Performer X. Good luck.

This is my first "real" build but I have a few knowledgeable friends helping me assemble this motor. I plan to clay the motor, Degree the cams, check v2v clearance and run a thicker Cometic headgasket somewhere around .040".

Am I overlooking anything as far as the actual motor assembly the is critical to getting it right?

According to Zealautowerks and C-speedracing my c/r is going to be high 13s (zeal) to high 12s (c-speed). Im not sure Ive accurately compensated for the change in the combustion chamber volume. Id like to know what this motors dynamic compression ratio will be at 800 ft elevation. Can anyone help me out?

I dont mind running half 93/94 and half Cam2 but its gonna be expensive and also be a grenade waiting to pop, id like to get an accurate c/r so I can lower it to make this motor a little more street friendly in this regard.

Maybe I should make another thread but this forum gets cluttered easily, I will if someone feels I should.
