LS/vtec igniter offset
okay as thread states my ls vtec distibuter igniter is out of place, i brought the engine to true top dead centre. and the igniter is pointing at #3 not #1 which it should be. Now i dont understand how this is possible when the timing is perfect?
i moved #1 plug wire to #3 and moved the rest of them one position forward and the car deffantly wants to fire but i know this is deffantly not correct and i dont want to do any damage. I would move the igniter if i could but its imposible to do so. PLEASE GIVE ME INFO thanks guys

Re: LS/vtec igniter offset
You mean the ROTOR...
The igniter is a small square electronic module with 5 wires going to it...
The rotor should fit on only one way.Usually held on with a screw. Some aftermarket rotors just kinda snap in place, but there is more play with this kind...
The cam is slotted offset also so its really hard to mistime the distributor to the cam/crank.
Double check the plug wires. I bet you just got a couple that are mixed up...

Re: LS/vtec igniter offset
Thanks for the correction, i meant to put rotor. But no my plug wires arent screwed up my rotor is poiting at #3 when it should be pointing at number #1 if i spun the dizzy
180* it would point at #2 i dont understand what is going on when my timing is perfect! both up's are pointing at 12oclock my 2 TDC marks are dead on which i heard is unusualy for a LS vtec since the decking is different. dont understand maybe spun the cam? but that would throw my TDC marks off this is really weird.

Re: LS/vtec igniter offset
Is this an aftermarket distributor? Aftermarket cams?
Pull the distributor out and verify the little key way is correct. Maybe compare to a known good to verify.
I heard somewhere that you can actually knock out the pin that holds the "key" to the distributor shaft and rotate it 180*. Not sure if this would help or not...
Was the car running before?
What changed?
