What do you guys think? Just a street port and polish and valve job, new bronze guides, new valve seals, supertech flat race valves, supertech retainers alum., supertech dual valve springs, new style lma's.
let me know what you guys think.
LOL I know it was to keep track of my head but I liked this

Re: got my head back from shop
just saw this thread, took the words outta my mouth.
it doesnt look like he did much either, just cleaned the casting flaws out of it. i cant quite tell if he moved the splitters back a little, but i dont think he did.
meh...

Re: got my head back from shop
Define "performed great!". Did he pick up 50 CFM over stock? Did the head make 30 more WHP than stock?
Objective tests such as before and after flow charts, time slips, and dyno graphs are much more informative and useful than " My buddy's head performed great!".

Re: got my head back from shop
i was waiting for the typical ht responses
his motor made very good power for his setup how about that. I didnt pay a thousand dollars for porting so i didnt expect that type of work. if i wanted to spout off about cfm i would have just sent it off to portflow so i could be a big badass on ht with cfm sheets.like i said, all i asked for was cleaning some light porting and polishing. this is all i need for my setup since im not dying to hit a certain whp so i can have a bigger epenis.
let me call my friend and see if he has his dyno tune slip from 3 years ago of a car that he doesnt even own anymore, would that please you?
the shop i used is well known in this area and has always done good work.

Re: got my head back from shop
Splitters are that vertical piece of metal when looking into the port (splits the air flow to each of the valves). Don't feel stupid about it, there's a lot of terms that I have yet to learn. As far as media blasting, don't know what the problem is.
Could the job have been better? Yea, but it could have been left alone and not done as good too. Depending on what power your looking at wanting to make, if it's not butchered, it's better (yes I realize that sometimes a setup needs to do a certain amount better rather than just "better", but I don't think that's the case here)
If your satisfied with what you got for the money you spent, and it does the job you need it to do, then it is a success, and if not, yes, there are a few things you could point out to the guy that did it that he should work on a little more.

Re: got my head back from shop
I am so happy that I could oblige you
Posting pictures and making statements such as "my buddy's head performed great" or "so and so shop is known for great work", while entertaining, is hardly technical content. This is after all, the "All Motor" technical section of H-T.
Perhaps a professional head porter could examine your amateurish pictures and be able to discerne some tidbit of helpful information to make you feel better about spending your hard earned $$. Most of us will look at your shiny head and be able to tell exactly nothing about how well it might perform. That is where objective data can be quite useful. Even simple folk like myself can see that a head that makes you .2 quicker in the quarter mile, gains you 20 WHP on a dyno, or gains significant CFM on a flow bench is a good thing. It is not a matter of e-pissing contests, or ego; technical data that shows how well a certain part or modification performs is beneficial to all of us Honda enthusiasts.

Re: got my head back from shop
intake ports appear to be really smooth, shouldnt be any smoother than about 60g. That looks like a 120g based off the work ive done using 120g pieces, but who knows for sure
