D Series Build safe for daily?
I wanted to get a little more bang out of my daily while still getting this good gas mileage. So now that one of my valves burnt on my 1990 Civic Si with 177k on it, I was thinking of building a little fun monster to drive everyday. What do you guys think?
What do you think can I run it on pump gas and still be safe with it? and not waste a ton of gas if I'm just cruising to work and back?
Thanks guys!!!
- Stock Z6 VTEC head ported and polished.
- Stock A6 Block (Honed)
- P29 Pistons and rings (89 Integra)
- Stock A6 Rods

Also can I use pump gas and run on a p28 without a tune? I know getting a tune is always better but can I get away with not getting one?

it will run, but wont be safe, reliable or economical. At least not as much as it could.
For what you want, you would be better off putting a stock z6 head back on and getting a tune than doing that setup without one.

Wait did u mean head or block? I am using the z6 head, just on an A6 block because I heard they're stronger.

Get tuned. You know damn well that you'll romp on it from time to time and you know that the timing and fuel map aren't adequate for the motor. You'll probably be running lean up top and burn it up. Why not leave it stock of you're going to half *** it?

Pump gas will be just fine,If you are thinking about skipping the tuning for awhile then i suggest you skip the build.Tuning is the foundation to making power along with the right bolt ons.And im curious i see your set-up above,What kind of bolt ons i.e. I/H/E are you planning or currently running?

Re: D Series Build safe for daily?
just put a complete z6 motor in there, convert over to obd1 and run a p28 ecu. you wont need a tune then just use your stock exhaust and maybe put a cold air intake on it
edit: you also have to run 3 wires for vtec from your motor to your ecu

dont you mean u need to run 2 wires for vtec? oil pressure and the solenoid?
well dev, like they said. u gotta get it tuned. getting it tuned can help your mpg a lot more then untuned. plus full potential power off your mini me set up. im running a d16z7(y7 block/z6 head) with a pw0 ecu untuned. runs decent, i have fun with it but its rich and if it was tuned to my spec, it would be A LOT MORE FUN.

Re: D Series Build safe for daily?
There are 2 sides to this debate.
Compression increase doesnt really affect air/fuel ratios badly. Its when you start increasing flow. Higher compression without detonation with the same fuel values will have better gas mileage and slight more power.
If you dont increase the airflow much then you could/should be fine. I would get it tuned to be sure tho cause even stock b16's make power from tuning.
