H2b Transmission choice
I just wanted to create a poll here and see what people prefer in the H2B setups. There are many transmissions available in B series and which ones are better for each setup?
My main question here is to find out how short of a gear is too short?
What have you run and what do you prefer?
Is the b16 4.4 final drive tranny too short for the h2b if you are daily driving it?
I actually went with the 99 si (which had ls internals) not sure if it was stock or not.
I rebuilt it and with 1-4th b16 gears (ls and b16 share the same first gear anyway) and kept the 4.266 final drive to save on gas mileage a little and hope.

Re: H2b Transmission choice
Gsr trans seems to be the most ideal for a street/strip setup. I know on my h2b with gsr trans with 22 inch slicks I go through the traps at top of 4th gear.

I've been daily driving my h2b with a usdm type r tranny and an act spring less 4puck with out any issues. b16 is hands down the best for an h2b setup. The whole purpose of building an h2b is to go fast, so I never understood why anyone would choose a lesser tranny.

Does the US ITR have the 4.4 final drive? What kind of gas mileage do you get?
I was running an s4 and come to find out its only a 4.266 final drive but it had decent gas mileage outside of vtec.

Yes 111 MPH @ 8300 Rpm. If you need more gear then throw on some 23's. I'm getting 35 MPG with this setup. My old motor was an LsVtec with the same trans and I was getting 40 MPG!

Re: H2b Transmission choice
you definately want b16 gearing with 4.4 fd
if your concerned with hwy driving i would imagine you could use an ls or gsr 5th gear although ive never personaly tried it since i didnt drive on the street.

FWIW, I run the two setups through my gear calculator.
B16 box in blue, GSR in red. Slight advatage to the B16 in terms of acceleration, but it really is slight. Personally I would go with the longer ratios, lots of torque in a lightweight car doesn't need close ratios to be quick.

That's interesting. I was curious because the transmission I am using for my setup is basically an LS with b16 1-4th gears, keeping the 4.266 final drive.
