Built 1.8 cam questions
Hi guys
Im in the process of building a b18c for a circuit racing series here in NZ called Honda Cup. I have pretty much all the bits except for the cam, which I am having a hard time deciding. The engine specs are as follows:
b18c block - bored/honed/decked
81.5mm Wiseco k593m815ap pistons
Brian Crower lightweight forged rods
b18c1 polished and balanced crank
Supertech valvetrain
The engine should be around 12.4:1 static compression
Will also be running ID1000 injectors/AEM fuel pump and e85.
I dont want a cam that is so big that vtec needs to be around 7k rpm and has nothing below 7000 as i need the drive out of corners.
At this stage the cams i have been looking at are:
Brian Crower stage 2 - BC0012
GSC N2
Any other recommendations? And yes I have searched, about 5000 times
Cheers
Brent

Unlike with the old Skunk2 Tuner 3, June cams and many others that had stock-ish primaries lobes on the cams.
Rocket Motorsport has some great, proven cams that give a very nice powerband and "out of corner response" for roadracing. I think you might do good with M22XX, they are much bigger than what most people think. But since it's a racecar M24XX might be good to. I am at the moment building a 2000cc B20vtec with M24XX cams. Not done yet though.
What sort of induction system are you planning on using?
Check out some of uncle Daves posts here, he has lot's of experience with building and tuning road race engines in Australia.

Re: Built 1.8 cam questions
^^this is nice to know. Also OP the BC2 are pretty small. You need something with a bit more lift and duration.
Just keep it simple with Pro2's, theyre proven to work at your c/r very well.

Re: Built 1.8 cam questions
Hi,
Since you have a build with a application in mind its best you get something custom made rather than a off the shelf Cam.
This is my suggestion its not that off the shelf profiles wont work but may not be whats best for you.
I got a custom cam made from DD tech for my car which is more of a daily driver but is also drag raced 2-3 times a year.
You could contact him or any of the others who do custom work and take the plunge.
Jignesh
