Default exsohc cam difference

my buddy have a 99' honda civic ex and decided to buy a used crower stage II cam for his car. the cam were for the d16z and after putting it in, his car runs like ****, worst than stock cam. is there a difference from the crower stage II cam for the d16z and d16y? because we looked up the specs on the crower website and it's the same duration and lift for both the d16z and y. any help would be appreciated, thanks!

So he just slapped a cam in and didn't do anything else. Was there anything done to the heads? Intake? Fuel Delivery?

Do you need to adjust your timing at all?

<---Not too sure about cams.

If crower stage 2 is = to skunk2 stage 2... the companies advise using aftermarket valve springs with a stage 2 camshaft. Make sure that everything's aligned. I just put in a AEM cam gear on my y8, the TDC line was like 1/2cm past TDC and my power has gone to ****, I have IHE and it feels like stock power again. so make sure you aligned everything on the dot.

You might want to have the car tuned too.

Align it before tuning, you'll have to pay extra if you make them realign your gears. But tuning will get what you're expecting out of your cam.

I believe there is a difference between y8 and z6 cams has to do with the dizzy key, I think it throws your timing off, I believe it can be corrected with a cam gear.

sohc guys chime in

Have a professional fix it. Been messing with my car gear to fix the alignment. Best I could do is retard the gear 2 degrees and I'm back to STOCK power. gonna have my camshaft done by a professional, that way they can time the gear at the same time.

the cam were installed by a shop. they were having trouble starting the car, maybe the timing isn't aligned.

Only that I have a JDM D15b Vtec engine in my Si at the moment, but there isn't any cam upgrade that's worth it imo. You can only do so much with the engine having one one cam. I'm happier with the high rpm range of this motor over the old z6, but I'm looking into adding a small turbo to compensate for the extra lack of torque in the lower rpms.

want input? Don't put a stage 2 cam in a stock head, it'll do absolutely nothing, even after tuning u'll get an extra 2hp tops

take the freakin car back to the shop and make them do it correctly. i would not pay a shop to do a crappy job like that.

You also better not be revving higher than stock redline without an aftermarket valvetrain.

Y8 cam into z6=advance cam timing 4.5 degrees
Z6 cam into y8=retard cam timing 4.5 degrees
Remember to reset timing Z6= 16 and y8= 12
