Going with a thin head gasket would bump compression up a slight bit. However, it would not be a to much of a gain from a factory 3 layer to a 2 layer. If you would like a more noticeable gain a 1 layer gasket would be best if clearances permit. Of course the proper way to increase compression without the obvious of replacing pistons would be modifying/welding the combustion chamber.

Depends also on what kind of setup/compression ratio you are running/after. Of course the meat of the motor would be where to start, but for just a little bump, go with the single layer unless you want to make more permanent changes..
