Default Alcohol / Methanol Injection - Detonation Band-Aid?

So, my car has this recurring detonation issue that seems to pop up, no matter how much timing my tuner takes away.

I got to thinking, the turbo guys use water/alky/meth injection to cool intake temps. Why can't I do the same to help prevent detonation?

If it matters, some of my detonation may be coming from a set of dead valve seals leaking oil into the cylinders, and possibly lowering the octane of my fuel.

Honestly, I'm just tired of looking at my plugs and seeing specks.

Any info on this topic would be gladly appreciated.

- Derek

P.S. Yes, I searched.

You can use water/meth injection to help out.
When are you seeing detonation ? Under full load during a pass only or what ?

You should honestly change out the valve stem seals if they are the issue.

What is your setup ?

I have actually been thinking about this same thing, using Alc/meth injection in an all motor app to enable running high compression ratios on pump gas. I am interested to hear what people think about it in an NA application.

It accumulates over time.

And yes, I do need to change out the valve stem seals. I've had a set of Ferrea seals laying around on my work bench for months now. It's just getting around to pulling the head off that I'm avoiding.

My setup is an LSVTEC with OS P30's, PR3 head, and Skunk2 Pro2+ cams.

Thanks,
- Derek

Derek,

Are you sure your ignition timing isnt floating around on its own due to a fucked up ICM ?

The c/r you are running is under 12.0:1 ? Correct ?
I have tuned several setups with around 12.5:1 on 93 oct without issues.

That's a good question.

I have an MSD box, if that matters.

And yes, my compression is right under 12:1.

CoolingMist.com sells kits for Non-FI cars, it uses a vacumn switch instead of a boost switch. I go my kit from them, great customer service and fast shipping.
