Default Help !!! Power steering leak issue and I'm going crazy LOL

Hello Members, (this was posted on TSXclub also)
I know I have posted on here before about this issue, but I just need some more questions, someone that is pretty good with this type of issue I am having, well I found out both my dust boots on the end of my tie rod ends are leaking power steering fluid, I have found the driver side boot has a rip which is right by the tie rod end, and the passanger boot must have a pin size hole in it, which is causing power steering fluid to leak, I have looked at the OEM service manual that is on tsxclub and it says that the seal can be replaced, I have spoke with a couple Acura service people at different Acura dealers, and they say the rack has to be replaced, is that true ?? or can the seal be replaced that goes in the rack so it stops leaking fluid ?? I don't really want to replace my rack unless that is what needs to be done ??

or can I just get a smaller belt and eliminate my power steering, and if I eliminate the power steering, will I continue to leak power steering fluid I would assume so since the rack is full of power steering fluid ??

It looks like there is a rubber stopper that is replaceable, it looks like part # 9.

or it looks like a seal kit is replaceable which is part #1

hello again.

the boots again are nothing more then a dust protector. They do not contain any fluid. The fluid is coming from the seals. Im almost 100% sure you should just replace the entire rack. thats what i would do.

Is the rack a PITA to replace by my self... or would it be better to take it in and have it done by a certified Honda tech or certified Acura tech ??

Thank you

Yes.

Without knowing your mechanical aptitude, I would say yes.

A power steering rack in a late model car is a pretty intensive project, even with a lift.

You don't necessarily need "Acura certified" anything, but I would recommend at least using an independent shop that specializes in Honda/Acura vehicles if you don't go to an Acura dealer. Only Honda/Acura power steering fluid should be used as well.

It's going to be expensive. Keep in mind that the car will also need a wheel alignment afterwards if it isn't already included as part of the procedure.

I am pretty knowledgable(SP) when it comes down to replacing items, I have done several motor swaps and other items, maybe this winter I will attempt to replace it, are any special tools required to replace the rack, or I may just take it in to have it done, therefore it would have warranty, I did find a reman rack for around $250 ish which is not bad at all, and I did find out its an expensive fix LOL.

Thanks again for all the help and answers I greatly appreciate it
