im gonna have to bump this back up, just read in honda tuning in mite hit the us late this yr. i think honda plans on selling 50,000 on these at 10,000 dollars. i like the way these thing looks, very econmical. i like what the market has turned to with these little cars that are afforable for younger guys to buy.scion has xb and xa, then chevy came out with there little car, and now honda has 1 coming out i think i mite want 1. anyways just thought i would bump this up to see what othere ppls thought of them.

I really hope these smaller and more economical cars take off, anything to curb the unnecessary over consumption of oil here in the states. I've gotten to the point where I don't care about having a 'fast' or even a 'quick' car. The fast/quick cars are fun and all, but I'm starting to look at them as a weekend or occasional drive thing. Hell, even with my Civic Si, while it's somewhat thrifty in its fuel consumption (on good days ~25mpg), I still find myself wanting something more economical.
The best part about these newer subcompacts like the Fit, is that they seem to be tearing apart the notion that smaller cars can't have a lot of space. Sure they may not be the fastest things in the world at a 0-60 of around 12 seconds, but they have a ton of space and they get respectable gas mileage.
In relation to the smaller cars, my uncle recently came back from a trip to Italy and in nearly all the pictures and all the video he shot, there were these small subcompacts (hatchbacks and wagons in particular). I saw a few big cars but I would have to say, from everything I saw, about 98% of the vehicles were in the subcompact class. Of course the rest of the world pays more for fuel, but with the current worldly events that are unfolding, our nations high times on cheap fuel may be numbered.
If the Fit is released to the tune of ~$10,000 as rumored, I will surely be putting my car up for sale.

I guess the 1.5 DSi VTEC engine is quicker than the 1.4. Expect 0-60 from the 1.5 in around 10 as it has 108 hp. If this car does come to the US, it'll be interesting to see what will be under the hoodl. I doubt it'll be a D-series engine as Honda has slowly been phasing them out. If we got the L-series (the DSi or Dual Spark Ignition), I think adding performance might be an issue, and Honda would have a hard time competeting with Toyota's Scion brand.

Re: (Sushiboy)
if they bring the fit. could it be they are going to make the civic more up scale? i can see them putting the current d series or a sucessor engine in there and they putting the base k series in the new civics. posibbly leaving the door open for the new si to have a ctr engine? who knows. if this jazz fit comes to the us. i am trading my dd corolla for it. looks sweet esp. the mugen version.

Re: (One Bad GeeSeeR)
I think that one of the problems that Honda has is that the Civic is already too upscale for some buyers. The Fit would fit in below the Civic's price.

Re: (Sushiboy)
thats true. i mean this years civic has more amenities that pass civics. its seems they want to move the civic out of the just econo box car. into a more high end car. which would make the fit a good fit( no pun intended haha ) a good choice under the civic. hope it does come here.

Re: (Keane Rated R)
Who knows? The Scions, particularly the xB, seem to be doing okay so far. There's news that Nissan is bringing over the redesigned Cube for 2006, so that'd make two low fuel consumers with five doors on U.S. soil. Only time will tell.

It's on the front page of automotive news which just arrived this afternoon.
Also mentioned is a confirmed light truck added to the acura line.
apparently the fit/jazz will be marketed simiar to the scion, and be in the $12,000.00 range.

but you have to have a subscription to view articles.
and it looks like the fit article is not yet online.

Re: (Chris_)
Autoweek had said that Honda had announced it was going to come over, but no specifics. Do the mention which engines the Fit/Jazz will have in the U.S.? Will it be the DSi L-series engines?
