Bought a J32A3 for my '96 TEG... PICS!
Bought this 75,000 KM J32A3 from a 2005 TL. $700 CDN. (Pretty cheap I thought, considering this trans sells for this much on its own) What you see is what I bought. There are a few missing bolts, a sensor or two and some other bits and pieces but I'm happy. The engine is also covered in overspray from the shop it was in. Idiots.
I'll be swapping this into my 96 TEG with the HASport kit (I know, sorry) and I'll be doing all the wiring myself.
The guy had no idea what he was getting rid of. He didn't even really know it was 6 Speed. From what I've read, this engine is 270 HP. Don't know the details on torque or how high it revs. Anyone?
Looking at the motor, the most noticeable part is the one piece exhaust cast into the head. Very interesting. I'm sure it's quite restrictive but I think this design would make it easier to put together a custom header/exhaust tube. No, the manifolds did not come with the motor.
There was a whole list of stuff I wanted to get from the car, but they crushed it. Apparently the only things of any "worth" were already removed. AKA engine and trans. Idiots.
I do have some questions... for anyone in the know of J's.
The throttle by wire throttle body, this can be replaced with another J series cable unit?
-If this is the case, I assume a different ECU would need to be used.
-Could I use a CL-S ECU?
The huge mount in the rear, is this used with the HASport kit?
Can I use an Accord 6 Speed shift box with the cables on this trans?
Is this the same trans that came in the '03 CL-S?
-Do I need to get the clutch line damper?
The sensor missing from the hole I pointed out, is it a TEMP SENSOR?
Are there any items I will need that may be missing? Maybe you guys see something that I don't.
I know the crank pulley bolt is missing.
Don't mind the sawdust on the floor, the trans was leaking everywhere.
I am now on the lookout for the rest of the wiring to make my life A LOT easier later on. What vehicles can I take that from?
I removed the PS and AC because I will not be using either. I'm running a looped power rack in my TEG. Time to find a custom belt to spin that alternator!
I'll add any additional questions I have if I think of something else.
PHOTOS!!!
You guys would lose your mind if you watched how we got it in the trailer.
No chain fall
No hoist
No overhead lift of anykind.
No jack.
Just the trailer, and the motor on the floor. Muscle and some cantalever trailer action did the rest.
Is there supposed to be a gasket between this plate and the manifold?
LSD (Torsen type, not helical)
No drilling and tapping required. This part had me nervous if I had a trans without this hole.

if u want to learn more about the engine, hit up acurazine and search on the 3rd gen tl side. great find, but. when u slam it or put it into third gear, it will sometimes pop out and go into neutral. u cant use the cl-s6 ecu, different wiring and connectors.
their is supposed to be a gasket between the intake manifold and that cover.
for exhaust, u can always get cat and pre cat deletes. go on that forum and search

I've seen those trannys for sale for close to 2,000 usd. I'm jealous you got such a good deal on this swap.

There is a service bulletin for the 3rd gear popping out. If you know the VIN that was matched to the motor you could call your local Acura dealer and see if the bulletin had been done. It pretty much consist of 3rd gear syncros etc. I work in the parts dept at and Acura, we have done somewhere around 10 of these since I've been here (1.5 years). You may never even see a problem but I would check before dropping that trans... it's not fun, even for an experienced Acura technician.

engine is rated for 258HP (new standard) and 237ft/lbs from 2-5Kthe torque curve is EXTREMELY FLAT so that engine will go like no tomorrow. only downside is exhaust collectors are cast into the heads....
it redlines at 6900 fuel cutoff is 7100
not sure if you can change the fly by wire one as this engine is 1/2" shorter and some parts were definately changed

i done this swap and the wiring is not easy or fun. even if you can get it running you wouldve waste alot of time and half the stuff wont be working, like speedo, tach, sometimes vtec and limited rev.
save yourself the headache and weeks of wiring and just buy the plug and play harness from kitsui engineering.
