3.2 TL transmission recall
Last week when taking my 3.2 TL 2000 in for service i was told that Honda was replacing the entire transmission on a factory recall. I was not given a reason for this recall nor had i heard anything about it prior to going to the dealership. Honda has not yet sent out recall notifications to the owners.
Does anyone know whats up?

So are they all ticking timebombs? The article doesn't say why it fails, just which part. If it gets replaced, could it still have the problem? Hmmmm...

yeah, basically honda gave an extended warranty on all their cars that are potentially infected with this bad transmission. its the 3rd puck clutch i believe, not sure. transmission slips out of gear, many stories of people doing like 80, then the transimission downshifts into 2nd gear, people lose control and could could get hurt. the TL-S is a little better off it has VSA and it has saved a guys life already. instead of honda doing an ALL OUT recall, they extend the warranty, b/c out of the million possible bad transmissions, only 16,000 have been claimed. Not all the transmissions are going to crap the bed, so why spend the extra money doing a recall on some transmissions that may be perfectly good. so they extend the warranty and fix the tranny's as they roll in. I personally have had no trouble, i have a 2000 tl-p, i run it hard and have had no trouble. so in words, they are pretty much ticking time bombs, please keep a watch out for symptoms of failure.. dont get a tranny cooler, it's a waste of money and has shown that it does not extend the life of your transmission, if its going to go, its going to go.

I have 2000 Odyssey LX and am very concerned about this . I would like to know what the symptoms this transmission has before it fails . I also wonder what part (s) fail . Although I am glad that Honda has noted that there is a problem, I think they let their buyers down bye offering the 70 k mile extended warranty vs a recall . How could one keep the vehicle beyond the warranty if has a major part ( $ 3000-4000 to rebuild ) which is known to to have problems ? !!!!
