Vibrating Aftermarket Wheels
Does anyone have a problem with steering wheel shaking when buying aftermarket rims? I had mines balanced but the mechanic put a crapload of weights on the wheels, and it was shaking at 70mph. I took off the weights to see what would happen and now my dashboard shakes at 100mph. Is it the rims?
Thx

-Alignment may be off? That sux, I just bought the car Mar 2004. The wheels are kinda heavier than the stock wheels.
-Yeah the lug nuts came from another set of aftermarket wheels, I borrow them off a set of messed up wheelmax wheels that I have in the garage because of a demolished wheelmax rim... I'll check the lug nuts, thanks.
-Hahaha, they didn't give me hub centric nothing! Thx.
-Im thinking about selling my rims/tires on ebay now since Im hearing it damages the suspension, poor planning on my part.

If you're using a heavy tyre like Azenis, it's possible the installer should have turned the tyre 180 degrees. You mentioned having a lot of weights on the wheel, so I think this is a possibility.
A lot of weights on a new wheels with a new tyre is sometimes a sign of this.
A wheel will shake despite an installer's best efforts if the wheel has been bent somehow, but this is usually evident in the balancing process.
Where did you go to get the wheels and tyres installed? I have never had good luck with big retail chains like Merchants, and prefer smaller shops that will actually pay attention to your needs and take a little pride in having their name associated with yours.
Are the wheels you bought advertised as hubcentric? That could play a part, but I kind of doubt it.
If you tighten the lug nuts sequentially and carefully, the load would be taken by the studs equally, and I don't think the lack of hugcentric rings would cause a vibration like that.
We frequently run Kosei and SSR wheels on the track with no hubcentric rings. (They tend to get demolished by the heat on the track, anyway.) Although I know it's not the best thing for the wheels, we have never had a problem with wheel vibration.
