Thinking of going old school, any advise from the wise?
I know this is my first post, but im not new to honda-tech. Ive browsed this forum for years, just never felt the need to throw in my 02 cents. So here is where im at, I own a 02 rsx-s
I bought it in 03 and have since payed it off, and added I/RH/E, hfp wheels, tein s-tecs, es inserts, and excedy clutch. I love the car, it was my first true honda, and i am hooked; however, im at the point to where i want to really build a decently fast honda. my goals are around 250 whp, i want full high performance suspension, solid mounts, id like to go all motor on the engine, i want an lsd tranny, id like to also upgrade the brake system. So my dilema is parts for the rsx are still so expensive, and i have always wanted to build an ef, sedan or hatch. Im thinking of selling the rsx and with the money i make off of it buying an ef. I will go with the jdm obd0 b16, as for the motor i will proubly build the head, leave the block stock, do fully adjustable coilovers, convert the front brakes to integra da knuckles, with slotted rotors, and good pads. Id like to buy hasport mounts, and then msd ignition, hondata of some kind, I/H/E, and buy some good tires to put everything to the ground. I would like some imput from those who have built ef's. Im seriously considering this and i think i could pull it all off with the money i make off my car. I dont want to get rid of the rsx, but if i did pull this off i feel i would have a decently built honda that would stomp all over my rsx as it is now. all info is appreciated, sorry this was so long by the way

im gonna go out on a limb and say that i doubt your gonna get many rsx guys tellin you to sell your rsx for a car thats 17+ years older. maybe you should post in the crx/ef civic section instead

yeah I'm with raw, if you do decide to do that, your gonna regret it. I would say, just save up and buy an old school project on the side, keep the rsx for a daily.

My (Wisconsin's) problem with EF's is they are twice as hard to work on as my EP because of rust. If you're going to do it make sure you get a clean boby/underbody EF, if they still exist. Actually, I'd use an EG hatch instead because they look a lot better IMO.

yeah i live in texas, and believe it or not i have seen quite a few nice efs rolling around, usually old people driving them, but rust isnt a proublem here like it is up there, or on the coast, i wouldnt mind building an eg, i had a 95 ex with the d16a6 vtec, and loved it also, but it was for my wife. I have not ruled out building an eg, but the newer i go in age, the more the swaps cost to do, and the jump from a 88-91 b16 to a 92+ b16 is only like 10hp difference, but it would proubly be safer since it would be newer. also weight is a factor, the eg is heaver

But the new engines are more reliable than the nearly 20 year old OBD0 motors that have been sitting who-knows-where.

I go back and forth as to which I like better. Any one of my various 4th gens or my EP's. I love the EP's comfort, but it feels like a pig compared to a 4th gen (as the RSX will as well).
Some things you will lose:
- 4 wheel disk
- Airbags (safety in general)
- PS
- Quiet cabin
- Torque
Some things you will gain:
- Cheaper mod path
- Double wishbone suspension
- Tighter chassis
- No PS
Overall I have LOVED, LOVED, LOVED all my 4th gens (my wagovan especially). Unless you are going to go high HP with the RSX, I say get a 4th gen.

yea i plan on doing my own build, i cant decide i would like to piece together a turbo kit, leave the engine stock, just install some headstuds and boost like 10lbs daily, but theres the side of me that wants to build the head for high revving, with some good cams, and just go all motor, however i will proubly go boost if i do it, just so i can have some torque, no matter what i do whatever i get is going to get badass suspension, and drag radials

i am a proud owner of an EF hatch and i love it i have driven my friends base model dc5 and its nice ill admit but to me EFs are in no way harder to work on then wat that guy said about EP3s i can have my motor pulled out and put bacl in in a day.. but im not gonna start drama.. to each their own right?.. but buyin a EF on the side and building it while keepin ur dc5 is a good idea.. if u sell ur dc5 for a EF hatch and use the money from ur rsx to build the EF and dont like it.. i can tell u u wont get wat u put into it back.

Just remember that in the end, you will be putting parts into a car that is worth less than 1/10th of your RSX and the only place that someone will think you are cool is on HT.
If you wan't to go faster...maybe think about getting a motorcycle.

i dont think he's too worried about scoring cool points around town, seems he's more interested in building wihtout killing his bank account.
It seems to me that he is wanting to make the transition from typical honda enthusiest to becoming more of a tuner. i'd say this is a good transition and his ability to part with the rsx shows that he is dedicated to it and provides a bankroll for the project. i think it's a good oppertunity, but thats just me.

The only extra thing to pull my k I had to do (over a d-series) was take off the bumper cover. The shift linkage was a breeze compared to the old bitch pin too. Honda's are easy to work on period. What I really meant was body/rust work sucks.
