The K20A2 comes in the rsx type-s 02-04 models, then they switched it out for the K20Z1. Its roughly 40 hp and 4 Tq. difference. If you haven't bought the car yet. I would suggest not. A close friend of mine had the ep3 first, traded it in and got the type s. I've driven both pretty extensively. Stock and modded. You're going to be disappointed with the power of the K20A3. There is not distinctive VTEC like your gsr motor had, it's an "economical" VTEC. Yeah Honda dropped the ball on that one. However I don't mind the look of a cleanly done Ep3 hatch, they're relatively clean.
Also it was the 04-05 and we still had small grinding issues.

It's definitely up to you, if you have a kid you're putting in the backseat, It would be roomier in the Ep3. The RSX is still a "hatchback" as there is no trunk either, it's all connected. You can definitely supercharge it or turbo, that'll be fun. Just make sure the first thing you do is lower it it changes the entire look of that car.

1. Alarm by wrx-sti-killer(eater?)
2.Drop(Lower it)
3. By some spun supamesh rims gold.
4. Mudguards
5.Shift ****.
Now I'm gonna pop another "Noob" question. Can you just swap in a k20a2 head? Kind of like a mini me? Or is it not worth it?

EPHatch.com... that's all you ever need to know. Seriously, go there, make an account, and just read a lot. EVERYTHING is there. Though, it's very unlikely you'll ever come back here. Not too be a dick or anything, but EPHatch is full of people who actually know what they're talking about. It's like the difference between auto shop in high school, and dealership training.
Sidenote: The vtec is no better or worse in the A3 than in anything else, it just doesn't punch like the normal vtec does, instead working more like a supercharger than a turbo. It starts to open the intakes at about 2200rpm and is fully open at around 5500rpm. I never did like the slam of a "normal" vtec anyway. But I'm more of a twisty backroads guy, and vtec and turbo lag are never good in corners, in my opinion.

Look like a good price?
There are tons more pics if you click on the images.

Fortunately for me, I just bought a new alpine one!
My only issue here is, deciding whether to trade in my 97 CL to knock off cash, or to try to sell my CL quickly for like 4,500... I dunno what to do!

Re: Needing some input from ep3 owners.
i bought my EP3 because i needed a car and WRX wagons were too hard to find. i just said **** it lemme get it and never looked back.. never even test drove it.. but i got it and i loved it from the beginning.. stock height is quite the gayness.. so i had tein springs on mine 2 weeks after i got it. i picked up the car on a wednesday and bought the springs that friday lol.
stock height
and this is how my car sits now
as far the lugs .. the difference is that u have a bigger wheel selection when u go 5 lug because most modern cars have it. das all.
overall tho.. its an awesome daily driver.. great gas mileage.. great handling whether stock or with upgrades

Re: Needing some input from ep3 owners.
haha, never heard it put that way before, hmmm, never thought of it like that! Makes me look at my EP in a whole new light! Seriously though, 160hp from a 2 liter isn't that horrible, just not up to Honda's usual (slightly over-achieving) capability(as in K20A2). Giving it an A2 stock would've surely cannibalized more than a few RSX-S sales. I always thought of the EP's biggest fault as being it's weight, if only the car had been around 200lbs lighter, I don't think people would've complained nearly as much about its "lack of power". I think its lack of sales success was really all about (bad) timing...following the EM1, which attracted a broader audience with it's "mainstream" coupe body style, the introduction of the RSX-S, and increased competition. I do believe it was the first time a new Si didn't significantly outperform its predecessor, but to me was much closer to a "true" Si. Too bad Honda is in it to make money(of course) and realized it could sell way more coupes and sedans with Si badges, we'll probably never see another Si hatchback in the US imo. Go for an EP, it's just a "special" little car, the only Si to have an exclusive body style(i.e. all 02-05 hatches are Si's). I've thought about getting a "better" car so many times, and could easily afford it, but just can't let go of my EP...just my .02...
With an aftermarket ECU (Hondata K-pro), the A3 easily gains 15-20 horse. I'm under the impression that it was detuned so as not to out perform the RSX. I personally like the weight balance better in the EP's. And I LOVE the provocable oversteer. The back end starts to slide, and then you just goose the throttle and she pulls straight or you let her go and "drift" it a little. Check out the youtube video of top gear playing with the Type-r and you'll see what I mean. The EPs pick up a wheel in the back, like a dog pissing on a tree.
SO MUCH FUN!!!

Re: Needing some input from ep3 owners.
I like not having to worry about my rpms. I shift by sound more than anything, and I can't always guarantee that I'll stay that high in the rpms, given a downshift. I guess I'm lazy. When I drive like that, I don't want to have to concentrate, I just let it happen. It's my escape, like the people who do yoga, or meditation. (Probably not the safest, or most responsible, but so far no wipeouts)

Thas crazy stuff. I'm really looking foward to my ep3. Just having a little struggle choosing the color. I know I want it white or black. But thinking of which one looks cleaner fixed up.
