Front end shimmy
I have checked the FAQ section first.
make = Honda
model = civic
year = 2003
sub model = SI
engine = k20a3
Miles = 180,000
modifications = CAI
well hello Honda-tech. my problem is as stated in the title but I will talk about the shimmy itself in more detail below.
*PROBLEM*
while operating the vehicle and are accelerating lets say from a stop-light. by the time I get to 4th gear its about 35-40 mph. the shimmy starts at 40mph and continues but does not get worse as the vehicle climbs to 50 mph. After 50 mph car is smooth and before 35 mph car is smooth. during low speeds I would say the vehicle feels a little loose. I say that solely because it just doesn't feel how it felt when I bought the car, as if something is slowly wearing away which could be anything.
*THINGS I SUSPECT TO BE THE PROBLEM*
1. Rotors - okay so initially I figured it could be my rotors. I knew that this was most likely not the issue since the vehicle reacts normally during braking either hard or soft. I replaced my rotors about 4 months ago and the shimmy still persist.
2. Front Struts - when I purchased the vehicle it would make a clunking noise when it would go over bumps. the noise steadily got worse and I found out it may be a blown strut. driverside strut was checked and it seemed to be in rather good condition for the age of the car. the passenger side was checked and in my eyes was not functioning properly. while passenger side strut was off the car it just slid down and had no pressure. long story short I replaced it and there was no longer a noise. but still a shimmy
3. cv axel - this is a long story but I will tell it in a couple short sentences. during strut replacement I found my passenger side axel seized. I beat on it and pretty much ruined it, brought it to a press and that's the end. I then put in a new axel. driver side axel was not replaced or checked.
4. tires - I thought about this but all 4 tires are brand new. tires mounted and balanced by discount tire.
What I would like is for any one to come fourth with possible solutions.
here is a nice picture of my stock unmolested civic. hopefully its stock look will get someone to help. GOT TO LOVE minneSNOWTA WINTERS.

Re: Front end shimmy
*shimmy issue has been resolved.*
1. my passenger side axel had an excessive amount of play in it. I figured the play in the axel could be vibrating the front end. I decided instead of getting another ep3 axel, I went ahead and bought a 2004 acura rsx base axel. make sure that it is the base model because it has the abs ring on it. this axel replacement fixed the vibration/shimmy issue.
2. while under vehicle I noticed my sway bar link was separated so I went ahead and replaced it.
although no help was offered hopefully someone with a similar issue can refer to this post.
