DC5 Type R muffler
A friend of mine just got a used DC5 Type R muffler "Axleback" and he isn't 100% positive he got a Type R muffler and not a Type S. Are there any markings or part numbers on the muffler we can look for? The bottom of his muffler reads
" Honda Futaba 1052"
Thanks for the help.

Re: DC5 Type R muffler
Okay i did a lot of looking around and was only able to find one part number. Looks like the 06 Type S muffler is a "Futaba 1060" part # as seen here.

Still haven't been able to find any part number for any year DC5 Type R. Hopefully someone will chime in with one.

Re: DC5 Type R muffler
If his says 1052 and stock S is 1060 then it's different. Doesnt he have any RSX-S friends that can just check there's? I'll check mine.
Where on the muffler does it say?

HONDA
10XX
FUTABA
I'm going to remove the piping on the muffler today and i will be able to look inside the rear of the muffler and if it's a Type R i will be able to see the door or gate that allows for the chamber's to be bypassed. Ill update later tonight.

Re: DC5 Type R muffler
Okay i just got back from the shop. I cut the rear section of piping off and sure enough i looked inside with a flash light and there was a bypass gate about an 1" inside the muffler inlet. I pushed the gate open fairly easy with a screw driver. It feels spring loaded. I was also able to measure the ID of the muffler inlet. It's about 2 1/8.
I hope this helps someone since the 05-06 Type S muffler and the Type R look VERY much alike from the out side.
TYPE R = 1052
05-06 Type S = 1060

Re: DC5 Type R muffler
At around 5000RPM's the gate will open up and bypass two of the three chambers. Which gives the muffler a pretty much straight through route. I read at 8000RPM's this muffler gets rid of 2/3 of the back pressure that the model before the gated Type R muffler couldn't. So I'm guessing that was the Type S muffler.
