Default 200hp vr6 GTI's anything to worry about?

i almost bought the gli vr6 jetta cause i have a few vw friends and probably the fastest just bolt on car out of all of them is my friend with a 2003 gti vr6. he bought the car already modded with cia catback and a ecu reflash. he hangs with a lot of cars he shouldnt on the highway from 70-130. its pretty impressive.

any way i went along and got an rsx-s because i never had any reliability issuse with my gsr and just decided to play it safe. i researched a little and found i'd prolly just want to do hondata cia and exhaust. with this set up you think i can hang with that gti?

i'm looking for people with real experience with the 200hp vr6 cause there is definitly a difference between that and the others. my other buddy has a 14 sec 97 gti with shrick cams and the 03 gti pulls him all the time.

that gti is going to be running a LOT more torque than you. will you keep up? probably not, but you're also not going to plow through corners, have quirky electrical issues, subpar build construction, or mediochre dealer service.

the corners are where you should eat his lunch.

acceleration isn't everything.

The gti will have a lot more torque than you, but that doesn't help with 70-130 pulls. From a dig he should eat you, but the higher speeds you should be able to keep right up with him. Your looking at a pretty close power-weight, hes probably slightly heavier than you.

I could take one of those too. My jetta isn't stock. The 24 valve vr6 is a great engine.

I dont think you would keep up with him. Although he is heavier ,VR's are nasty as **** on the highway. I had a 05 1.8t GTI with intake chip and open DP and my friend had a 97 jetta glx with chip intake exhaust and from a roll he would pull and i would have to chase him down.

Torque owns you. <TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by dc5RickK20 &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">GTI's are so slow i dont care what anyone says theres like 50 million of them where i live and i have never lost to a GTI i took one out by 4 cars and all i had was an intake the GTI had intake and exhaust trust me you got nothing to worry about i have taken out my fair share og GTI's in my day</TD></TR></TABLE>

How do you know you didnt beat a 2.0 (120 hp)?? I have a 1.8t with basic bolt ons and chip. I run low 14's on street tires.

VR6 good torque all through the power band. Honda's power up top. Gotta love that vtec.

well like i said, no one can hang with that gti up top. i think the 1.8t's get him at lower speeds all the time though, but when they hit the highway and really open up the cars, the vr6 just pulls and pulls. i was in the car with the 1.8t driver and that vr6 just kept getting further and further away from us. the ironic thing is the 1.8t dynod a little higher in power to. (???)

so anyway, he (the owner of the vr6) is real excided for me to start modding cause i guess the vw world thinks a rsx-s with hondata and race header is untouchable up top. he seems anxious to finally have a car in the group that can challange his car

yeah i know a bunch of guys with 1.8t GTI's and they cant touch me im telling you those german cars take off on the freeway because they are made for the autobahn i never race at a roll either because i think theres no skill in that i always race them at a dead stop so you can really see what a cars got im telling you every guy i know with a GTI thinks they can take on the world ever one i know is the same all they do is talk **** and when you beat them they say oh we gotta do it at a roll

atually you got it backwards. racing from a roll is exactly how you find out what the cars got. it takes the driver abilities out of it. just car vs car. vw suck at launching from a stop.

1.8t's are fast from lower speeds. what mods you got that your smoking them?

i guess but i say theres no skill in racing at a roll any front wheel drive cars gonna have problems at a dead stop i thinkthe GTI is tuned for top end power so its kind of unfair the type -s is made to be a quick high reving car

i have tested a 07GTi before i bought my dc5 and the gti is alot heavier i was on the same road where i test drove both cars.. i felt that the dc5 was quicker or mayb i was just stepingo n the rsx more than i was with the gti iono.. but racing from a roll.. iono.. i feel that a track makes more of the drivers ability as well as the vehicle it self of course.

i'm begining to think no one here has a clue. a vr6 is a vr6 to you guys i guess.
and a gti a gti. to much generalizing.

dood earighther way its still a VW, i say if you get the I/H/E and reflash youll be putting about 190 ( in theory) to the wheels you should be able to do just fine, Vw people think that the VR6 is God's gift to the autmotive world or its special cause its a supoosed tourqe monster i know i have to here about it 24/7 from my roommate but i feel like my k series puts me in my seet more so idunno race and find out

I work at a volkswagen dealership and i have driven all sorts of gti's i would say your gonna need more than an intake, reflash, and exhaust especially if he is running a modded 24v but thats just in the straights. Do some mountain decents and eat that veedub

VDubs are kool but the gti for being turbo ...sucks it isnt much faster then a 06 si for example.

look at the new gti vs. new si. the new si in a better all around car.also a honda will last longer then most VW's.
