New NSX
Motorpulse has a story on the new NSX today for those following this:
http://motorpulse.com/
http://resanium.com/blog/?p=144
No pics that I saw, but some stats.
"The Acura NSX will be powered by a 4,5-litre V10 powerplant featuring a 95-degree V angle similar to that of an F1 engine. The figures being hinted at are impressive to say the least; the engine is said to generate 410 kW and 0-100 km/h is dispatched in a claimed 3,8 seconds on the way to a top speed of around 320 km/h. "
"Powerful ventilated carbon ceramic brake discs with eight-piston calipers "
320 km/h = 198.8 mph
410 kW = 561.7 hp
100km/h = 62 mph <-- So I would guess 0-60 could be 3.7 seconds?

I'm not sure what the "R" is. Doesn't sound cheap though. I would guess it would cost about what a Lamborghini or F430 costs since its faster and higher quality.

X2 I wish that would apply to all sports cars. Not that it would matter though, 100K for a car might as well be 1000K for me right now.

Why is everyone going to a V10 now? And then saying that it is similiar to an F1 race car? F1 is using a V8. V10s don't sound that great anyhow, especially compared to any V8 or V12.

Because for the last 10 years F1 was running V10s. Thats 10 years of research and development they can pull from. They *just* switched to the V8s so they know nothing about them yet.
Also, while V8's sound WICKED, they only fit certain cars. I'm not sure a V8 would sound right coming out of an NSX.

Any V series motor is inherently less balanced than an inline motor.
The degree of the V bloack usually determines how unbalanced a motor is but that can all be nil when properly balanced and counter balanced.

A good example is F1. They rev to what, 18,000rpm? If its not near perfect balance it would fly apart.

They are extremely narrow angle V blocks though IIRC. And the pistons are little bitty.

This is the big thing. Customers of $100k+ cars do not want V8's, they consider V10-12's manditory, with the exception of Porsche who can get away with flat-6 motors.

Re: (Brandon)
If what I was told is correct...Honda will not produce a V8 in a production car as long as they are supplying GM with V6s. Any industry insiders that can confirm this?

I HIGHLY doubt that. GM is not afraid of any V8 engines.

Are you questioning that???????
Ferrari has improved somewhat, but they still cost a fortune to drive with simple things that should not break breaking. Things like the door pannels coming off, etc.
And Lamborghini.... forget about it. They just plain SUCK. They're made to look at, not to actually drive.

people buying a Ferrari should not be concerned about interior door panels...the Enzo doesn't come equipped with a stereo for a reason.

Ferrari's don't break at all likethey used to. Lamborghini's are subject to VWAG build quality gremlins.
However, neither suffer the same brand image that Acura does. So as far as seperating the well heeled from their Summer bonuses, Ferrari and Lambo will always remian king on that front IMHO.
Regardless of how well the Acura performs or how reliable it is.
Most people that buy this caliber of car drive it once a week if not once a month.

True. And you could buy 5 corvettes that outperform a lamborghini for the price of a lamborghini. You could buy 4 corvettes that outperform a F430 for the price of one of those.
But at the end of the day, you just have a corvette.

ummm....LSx > all V8's. honda would not be able to make a V8 to compete with an LS-anything. you can have all the overhead cams and VTEC you want, but the raw power of the pushrod LSx will still eat it alive.

Sounds good to me, better then having a nsx.
