Actually, I think its a bit light. Found a reference to an old Honda press release that claims the motor weighs 440lbs. Looks like my "arm dyno," as one poster derisively referred to it, was pretty damn accurate.

Aww, nobody want to play wit me!!! I think this thread is done. At the end of it all, if I had the money, I'd just supercharge the C32(?) and enjoy it... I've driven a comptech supercharged '04 and it was a joyous nut-in-your-pants tent-pitching experience I'll never forget. 140 mph at about 5K in 4th gear... f.ck the world.

As a matter of fact, I've got a funny story for you all to enjoy and discuss. Sorry this is completely off topic, but I wanted to share the idiocy of one of my former friends and co-workers. This guy took the same 04 sc'ed NSX for a test drive on a rainy day, turned off the TCS, and purposely tried to swing the *** end around like it was a front-engine rwd car... needless to say it ended quite badly and he no longer works with us. What a freakin moron. This car was worth about 110K and had around 400 hp. That's a lot to us blue-collar ****'s here in DE. Apparently not enough to said idiot...

Re: (70hphf)
When people talk in car terms, 'high strung' ALWAYS refers to having a high redline, which the NSX does for a v-6.
It has nothing to do with 'nervousness' or 'twitchy' and is not a negative connotation except to redneck muscle car guys who don't like a car that they have to rev past 4k rpm.

I have been building cars for three decades and I have NEVER heard that phrase used in that context. I have heard it used many times in the context I mentioned. Face it, "high-strung" means tempermental or near the limit.
Besides, the guy who made the statement had plenty of opportunities to respond and had nothing. If that is really what he meant, I think he could have done a bit better than "You ever thought about being an english teacher? "

That sounds about right, EF.
Drop the high-strung ****, it's a dead horse. Top Ramen, you're right, the c32's not high-strung, but you sure as **** are.
car and driver stated that the nsx has a slightly rear-biased weight distribution, (42/58). Dropping in a k-series just might make it 50/50. So, I'm thinking that with some adjustable coil-overs, the nsx just might handle better with the smaller, lighter 4 cyl.

The timing is perfect - I was talking to a friend about a week ago regarding how cheap an early, high milage nsx is now. We figured somebody, somewhere would grab one and do a K swap this year. If the total weight really does drop significantly (from the swap itself, not just based on the fact they gutted the car) then its kind of interesting. Otherwise, I would still rather have one of Cody's 900 hp C32 cars.

Shawn,
If you buy an NSX to build it comes with a C motor, so the rarity is not really an issue. Besides, C30/32 motors aren't THAT rare and the cost factor is largely offset by the custom fabrication required for the K motor. I can't even imagine how many hours re-building the harness to run off a K pro would take. A scratch built M4 harness would probably be easier.
Don't get me wrong - I am a big fan of K motors and think they are the best current 4 cylinder - but this is a LOT of work to get the same power a sleeved C30 or C32 would make.
Very interesting project and I respect the fabrication skills, its just not the path I would choose. If they go out and beat the Factor X car in time attack events, then I would be convinced.

c30s seem to be going for around 9k+ used now. I can't hazard a guess of what a type-r 3.2 would go for. 20-30k?

Re: K-Series engine swap into an NSX?
I didnt read the whole thread but did any one bring up the thought of droping in a newer TL type SH motor in there? 305hp, 273 lb-ft. 3.7 If you blew up the original C30 I would think that this would be a good replacement if you wanted to keep it a V6. Im sure that motor with FI would be alot of fun

Re: K-Series engine swap into an NSX?
The C30, C32 engine itself just sounds great once you have a proper exhaust on there like the gtlw. As far that C32 R motor....theres not much difference besides a blue printed and more balanced motor.....a 3.8L stroker motor will do the trick just fine.
Kudos to Ross for taking on a project like this.
