V1 Installed - thanks RGuy
This past week I gave my R something it was long overdue for - a radar detector.
I recently put my car back to stock, and was more delighted than I expected at how much less attention I attracted simply by quieting the car down. I had been debating selling the car, but I have decided (for now) to keep it. So I decided to invest a little bit in staying ahead of the game.
Brian met me in the DC area to make the switch. I must say that everything was in impeccable condition. Original boxes, manuals (which I promptly lost), and wires. He was incredibly gracious about it, and didn't even bother double-checking the envelope I handed him. Class act and a trustworthy seller.
That envelope bought me a Valentine One, and two essential accessories - a remote display, and a remote audio/power switch. The display frees you from having to look at the detector itself, and the audio remote frees you from having to reach up and turn it off when you cross the VA state line, or adjust the volume.
I like steathy installs, and I brought it to the Tweeter in Columbia, MD, where I know a few employees. They did an awesome job and I would highly recommend their installer to anyone who is in the market for one.
All in all, I'd say this is the best purchase I have made for the ITR since I bought it. It is totally stealth, and offers a lot of piece of mind when motoring along the nation's highways.
Cliffs:
V1 = the ****
Brian/RGuy = good peeps

Its too bad detectors are illegal in VA, don't most troopers have radar detection devices as well? Not that you won't travel outside of VA where it will be useful, but will you use in VA? Nice pick up though

The radar detector detectors can generally only find the cheaper ones. Escort and Valentine are pretty much immune to them. I've had a stealth installed detector in a number of my cars in VA for years with no problems whatsoever.

Dammit I hate the V1-less 15 minute drive from the NC border to Danville to go to autocrosses. I feel so vulnerable!
V1 only works if you don't learn to ignore the beep and flash. You'll learn where it always triggers on your commute/usual routes and press the mute button, but it's the beeps in between that are the dangerous ones.

Me too.
I'm thinking about rigging a V1 stealth install instead of using a Bell remote detector. I'm just not sure how I'm going to do it...

It's not hard. I was really stupid for not doing this earlier. I'd rather not post pics, though, and give the gendarmes an opportunity to see how we roll. If anyone wants to know how it was done, I'l respond via PM.

LOL, I am seriously considering your advice. What I meant by my last post is that I don't want to post pictures of the install, since there are a few officers on here. In particular, there are some concerned H-T citizens from my neck of the woods who would love nothing more than to forward this link to the entire Virginia State Police, so they can have something new to bust people for.

This thing is really sensitive. I think that sounds likely.

I won't say how much I paid unless the seller wants me to volunteer, but since it came with two extras (which together would have cost around $100), I was happy with what I paid. I also saved on the installation, since I knew the guy.
A new V1, with the extras I got, would probably cost $500 before tax.

$399 plus shipping. You're never going to get a deal on a V1 because they are only factory direct. Unless you save $20 by getting a used one on ebay.
