Takata harness $340 !!!

Re: Takata harness $340 !!!
Ah...another harness thread. Its been awhile.
First off, the G Force belts for $109.99 are not Sabelt belts. I sell these, so I know firsthand. The camlock mechanism used to be made by Sabelt, but not anymore, G Force makes everything themselves. Great belt for the money, but it is not the same quality as a Sabelt, Sparco, or Schroth competition belt. It meets the same safety requirements, but if you put the belts next to each other, you'll definitely notice the differences between G Force and the others.
Secondly, Sabelt are not sold here in the US anymore. Sparco harnesses are made by Sabelt, however.
Thirdly, the sub strap on a 5-6 point harness doesn't do you much good if it is mounted incorrectly. If used without a seat that has a substrap whole in the base, the sub straps have to be run over the front edge of the seat. This is an incorrect mounting, and you can still submarine under the lap belt. Many people seem to forget, or not know, about this.
Fourthly, I Won't go much into the whole 3pt vs 4pt vs 5pt vs 6pt harness belt debacle, but certain 4 point belts are ok, namely those with ant-submarining mechanisms built in. Schroth is the only one that makes one of those. These type of belts are available as a factory option on BMW's in Europe. I still only recommend their use for autocross, unless you have a rollbar/cage in your car.
Lastly, I sell competition belts made by Schroth, Sparco, G Force, and Corbeau (yes Corbeau now makes a 5 point), and Schroth are easily the highest quality belts available. Schroth specializes in restraint systems, thats all they make, so I think they know their shiat. A lot of R&D goes into their products. You get what you pay for though, because Schroth are also the most expensive belts on the market. EDIT: I just noticed that Takata are more expensive

Thanks for the great info Brett, just when I"m looking into harnesses.
$340 for a Takata? What a joke. This must be the bling of harnesses: most expensive and not one of the best made harnesses out there.

I've noticed the webbing on the G-Force belts is much more flexable than the Sparco/Sabelt ones. Just an observation.

Re: Takata harness $340 !!! (Brett@SoloRacer.com)
Brett: I agree with pretty much all you've said, but since this thread was from 2002 the $109.99 were not g-force belts back then. They were made by sabelt, with the sabelt name, etc on them. G-Force was not written anywhere on them. We still have one in the race car and it's held up perfectly throughout the years.
Just pointing this out since my suggestion about calling racerwholesale was from 11/02 and not 9/03
ITR Guru: As for godspeed, I'd rather not get into that crap again, but if you must know, you can IM me and I'll tell you I guess. Well, next week when I check HT again anyways.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying the $109.99 belts are junk. As for the "Sabelt" belts that RacerWholesale used to sell for $109.99, I was told that those were not entirely Sabelt belts. The camlock was Sabelt, but the belts were re-webbed by RacerWholesale (and Sabelt logos restiched on?). Like Floyd said, if you put the belts you are talking about next to Sabelt belts sold for around $200, you'll see that the webbing is totally different. Again, I was just told this buy a supplier after I asked how the hell RW could sell $200+ Sabelt belts for 1/2 the price of the ones I was selling.

Brett: As I said before when this topic came up, that is possible. The belts do exactly match "real" sabelts (which a friend has in his ITA car) exactly. They feel the same, look the same, hae the same tags everywhere, etc. Personally, until I see problems with them (and I do check them out every so often just in case) then they'll be replaced right away. I think they are 00 or 01 belts so they'll be replaced relatively soon anyways.
Brett: Have you ever seen/used the Isaac head and neck restraint? considering getting that if this SPU CRX ever gets done. Not a big fan of the HANS device and hutchins is a nutcruncher

Good deal, did not know. Just seems everyone wants to run harnesses just for the bling now a days. I would invest in nice seats that fit you to your likings, seats add so much when racing the car!
