Re: Stock 97 ITR Dyno plots ... (SMSP)
Alright I'm convinced. Dave your my hero, when are you going to release a price and an availability date? I need an exhaust quick, something broke in my stock exhaust and it sounds like Im dragging a pile of aluminum cans, very embarassing!!
By the way Zygspeed, if you could get some pictures of the exhaust a little back from the car just to check out the profile, that would be nice. I'm digging the stock exhaust look, I got my hood popped by the CHP 2 times in 2 weeks, darn you phoenix yellow! I'm trying to blend in with the rest of the traffic you know. Also, how would you say this exhaust sounds compared to any other systems. We don't want it too quiet, right? Thanks guys,
Andrew

Yeah, just noticed that.
Let me see about bumping the size.
The graph compares the best of my stock baseline runs, with the best of the runs after installing the SMSP cat-back, highflow cat and my DC 4-1 header.
The numbers Dave posted above are data from these two runs.
My next step will be the installation of the afore mentioned intake cam (CTR, 00-01 ITR) to more readily compare the earlier 97 with the latter 00-01 ITRs.
Here's my question to those interested.
Should I do the next runs with just the cam install (and some cam tuning), or would you guys mind if I did an intake at the same time (so that I can speed up the process while saving some trips down to the shop and dyno)? ED

It would look that way, but I personally chose the cutoff.
When looking from above and from the driver side of the vehicle, it doesn't seem to protrude past the contour of the bumper.
I'll take a pic like that in the next day or two.
Actually, even Dave thought it was a bit far till I showed him why ... Ed.
I'm sure he would cut it shorter if you wanted.

Hmm...I'm a little dissapointed in the power output. I suppose in combination with the SMS header the power output would be amplified greatly. But still...power resembles just a JDM header dyno. The DC 4-1 was the JDM correct?
None the less, thumbsup to the craftsmanship...I'd like to hear some sound clips too

Yes, I was a little dismayed as well at the peak numbers as well.
The header is pretty much a simple DC/Mugen style 4-1 with a JDM 2 1/2" collector, and even though I've got the exhaust part of the equation pretty much nailed, I'd still like to remind everyone that this is with a COMPLETELY STOCK INTAKE (right down to the paper filter) on the OEM ECU w/o any tuning.
I'll see about getting some more mpegs/sound today.

Edit: I'm retarded. Ed, was the reason for having it out so far so that the soot/carbon crap wouldn't get on the bumper? And is this how Dave will make all of them?

To answer your last question first, Dave will most likely make the tailpipe shorter.
The way I determined where/how long to cut it was I simply pointed a finger straight down from the vertical-rearmost part of the bumper (just above the tip), and that's how it came out. The soot situation might have been in mind, but really shouldn't have been an issue since I am now running a cat (where in the past on my other car I was not).
Frankly, I need to post a pic from the driver's side and show that it doesn't stick out almost at all beyond the rear bumper profile when viewed from above.
I guess next time I go down to his shop we can measure the stock muffler tip portion and see how it compares with mine. Ed
One last note: it may seem that it sticks out more on my 97 because of the rear bumper style/slope near the lower portion just above the tip.

Re: (.RJ)
I saw the comment about the cutoff and Dave's ability to change it, but was unaware of what it was being compared to. I was looking for a standard that Dave would use to know if I would need to have it modified, and more than that, a possible reason for the length, other than appearance. Seems to have been answered, so thanks Ed.

Another HT member dyno'd a bit over 161whp with a stock GSR sporting only an iceman intake and about 80deg F.
ITRs only making 170 or less... could it be the tuners ?
**Can't wait for the new dyno #'s btw.</TD></TR></TABLE>

Finally have a variable with some tunability, just installed a CTR intake cam and Toda gears.
The Mugen intake will help, but isn't itself "tunable".
New dyno's come Tues or Weds.
Chad, any word on replacement rear BC's?
Thanks.
