OT, But Important - Donation Request
I decided to create a new thread so as not to interfere with the original one where I initially posted this. I'm most familiar with the ITR forum members, and it contains a number of very helpful people, so I felt I would receive the most positive response here.
I'm hoping that someone who views this thread can help me out (and those who know me here will know that this request is in no way a scam). My girlfriend teaches the 6th grade, and recently one of the little girls at her school was diagnosed with leukemia and is now forced to stay at the hospital. My girlfriend is one of the teachers who travels to the hospital to teach the little girl, and she recently informed me of the following problem.
One of the only ways that this girl is able to interact with her friends (and one of her only sources of entertainment in the hospital) is through AIM and email. Unfortunately, the only computer that she had has broken. If anyone here has an old laptop that they are no longer using and would like to donate it to this little girl, we would be very, very appreciative. The only real requirement is that it works, can run AIM, and has an Ethernet port or PC card slot for her connection. I've been searching on eBay for an inexpensive one to buy her, but haven't found something suitable that is within my budget. Even a small donation to put towards a purchase for her would be excellent. If someone would like to help, please contact me via email (CBMarkowski@hotmail.com)l or through PM. It would make a tremendous difference in this little girl's life. Thank you all for your time and help.
Edit: The location is northern NJ, but I will cover shipping if it winds up being necessary.

I'm on vacation from work currently, but I may be able to get you one. Let me work on it and I'll get back to you. it'll be a pentium II, which should be enough.

Checked with a friend who has a few older ibm laptops, no good . They seem to all be accounted for. Sorry

Thank you for all of your help. We're pretty certain that we've found one that's local. Hopefully, she'll be able to get everything set up and worked out before the holidays. Thanks again everyone.

Let me know for sure when you can. I'm on vacation until next week so no rush but if you still need one let me know.

Ahh excellent, I wish you had posted this earlier this week, as I just ebay'd a dozen older laptops... I'd much rather have given one to a great cause than the measly pittance ebay had to offer for them.
Keep us posted if your local lead falls through, I should be able to pull some strings and scrounge up an AIM capable laptop otherwise.

I'll ask some of my friends if they have any older laptops around.
If I get one, I'll be sure to send it out for the little gir

Happily, the local donation worked out, and my girlfriend and some of her colleagues brought the computer to the hospital this afternoon. Now all that's left is to get her all set up again with her connection and AIM. Thank all of you for your kindness and generosity. H-T truly does have some wonderful members.
