Default Mr. Socko's family tree

Now that I finally got around to replacing the short ram air filter that disintegrated at MAM a year and a half ago, I thought I'd take a picture of the lineup of air filters I've been using for the R family album.

On the left we have the jrsc short ram air filter that blew chunks at MAM. I only wish I knew where the chunks went and why the aluminum filter housing splintered so badly on track.

As many of you who were at MAM for the H-T event can attest, it was a good thing Mr. Socko was on hand (er, well on foot) to pick up the pieces. Mr. Socko fit so well onto the short ram intake, you'd swear he was OEM. Maybe even JDM. He guarded my throttle body from foreign invaders like a father guards his daughter's honor.

But alas, Mr. Socko is now retired. The next generation of air filters arrived in the mail today and I'm looking forward to having a more "conventional" filter under the hood. I would imagine I'll pick up a few lost hp with the new filter, but I'll never know for sure as I never did dyno Mr. Socko.

What an interesting read that would be. Some guy does a filter test against a cotton sock. Next thing would be to determine which sock maker makes the most hp.

Throw a sock on a J's racing intake and you got a winner!

But its gotta be a Hanes sock.
