Default MP3 player in R?

Anyone have any ideas on how you would go about playing mp3's in an R?
I have about 3 gigs worth of mp3's what would i need to get stereo wise
in order to do this? Not interested in an mp3 player that only lets you load up like 100 songs. What if i could run the mp3's off a laptop? how would i get it to work through the stereo?

I was browsing through bestbuy and I saw a bunch of new decks out now that play mp3's off your cd-r or cd-rw. They're around $300 I think.

I threw a Rockford Fosgate into my car recently that plays them off CD-Rs, about 150-200 songs on a disc, good headunit too. RFX-9000 i think it is...hard drives may be more bling etc, but CD-Rs are cheap as hell, and the headunit is good and basic, no fancy DSP or other crap you never use....glows wickid red too

I have an Alpine 7894. It plays MP3's and even lights up amber too.

For those who have the head units that play cd-r's.
How do you find songs? Do you have to shuffle through 500 songs, or can you catagorize them somehow?

My Alpine categorizes them by alphabetical order. You can also create folders and arrange that way.

The RF system goes through folders (if you have them), and alphabetically through songs in the folders. I find the best way to make MP3 CDs is to have like 5-7 folders, each a big mix, so there's some variation and all your Red Hot Chili Peppers songs don't play in a row. Of course, you can also play random...and the search feature is very cool, just rotate the **** to a letter, hit it to enter that letter, repeat for a few letters, and if you've punched in NIN for example you'll be able to scroll through all the NINe inch nails songs, plus maybe Ninety Nine Luftballons etc

As everyone has said, I think that most mp3 headunits can arrange them into folders. All you have to do is burn the CDR as a data CD with the songs arranged into folders. It's quite nice. And you can usually fit about 200 songs on one CD. Four Cds just allowed me a quite enjoyable 12 hour trip. BTW, I have the pioneer9400....a little flashy but nice.

that is what i have. i like it alot!
10 gigs, you can get bigger like 20 or so for now

i have the newer excelon deck kdc-x759 and keg khd-cx910
i bought this 4-6 months ago, and they didnt have the excelon version out yet
You will need a kenwood deck along with the keg.

the other option I considered is doing the alpine deck with their mp3 changer. the changer can hold 6 cds (700mb a piece * 6 = 4.2gb)
you can cary extra cds in your car for more music

I like the quality of alpine stuff over kenwood too. looks nicer as well

if the pioneer is able to DL cds directly into the player that can be cool and also very tedious. if you DL mp3's then you would have to burn them to a disk, then wait at least 4-10 mintues for the pioneer to remember it.

with the keg, you just drag and drop music. if the mp3 is already on my cpu then it takes less than 10 minutes to download 1-3 gigs at one time
