Default Lost in suspension set ups! Need some insight

So I have been looking and reviewing suspension set ups for what seems like forever now! I have a stock ITR and all I want to do is just lower it a little. My caR is just a summer cruiser for me so I dont need any fancy spring rates for track use. I want some finger gap, and I like the slightly lower front end look. I have looked at Eibach springs, H&R springs, Tanabe springs, PIC coilovers, Function and Form coilovers, Tein springs and coilovers, and Koin/GC. I want my car to have a stance similar to the ITR pictured below, well pretty much the same stance. I can remove the picture upon requested of the owner. If anyone can give me some direction on what spring or coilover will help me obtain this stance I will be much obliged. Thanks in advance.

Ummm any coilover will give you that stance. Coilovers are adjustable so you can set it wherever you like. But it may ride like poo. That would be the difference between the good and bad stuff.

Sounds like you don't want to ruin the handling, but are on a budget as well. Try koni OTS shocks + coilover sleeves and your choice of springs. It will be affordable and it's tried and true. Lifetime warranty on the shocks and you wont ruin the handling of your car if you get it set up by someone knowledgeable.

Actually, OP would be good with Koni Yellows + stock springs. Just set the Koni yellows on the lowest perch setting and you get a lower car. Plus, you keep the OEM balance and upgrade to a better shock. It's a win-win.

Later on, you can always upgrade to a Ground Control coilover kit with thise same Koni Yellows if that doesn't satisfy your needs.

^Yeah that would be a good idea, especially if you have the money to spend. Of course you may not need adjustable performance shocks. Also, this option will only lower the car about an inch from stock.

A less expensive option would be the stock shocks w/ eibach springs. Those are top quality w/ lifetime warranty as well. Plus you can choose from one of two different ride heights (sportline or pro-kit).

Personally I started off w/ GC sleeves on stock shocks because I really had no idea what height I would end up liking. Worked great for a long time, but I stepped up to Koni shocks when I broke a frozen LCA bolt. The Koni/GC combo is really spectacular for the money. Out performs pretty much all of the colorful "full" coil-over setups out there...

PS: When it comes time to do the install, learn how to reset your suspension bushings so you tear them up w/ your new ride height. Also don't forget to factor in an alignment when it's all said and done.

I'll just add to the Eibach idea here. From personal experience years ago my first suspension adventure was the Eibach Pro Kit. They DID NOT lower the car at all but, the car had a good ride and was a bit crisper on the corners. I love the way they felt but once again, they didn't lower the car. Had I installed their Sportline springs they might still be on the car today.
So I swapped over to Skunk2 coil-overs with high spring rates (not sure what they were, been years ago) and that a bad mistake. Sure it handled like it was on rails but I felt every bump in the road.
Soooooooo,.... my car had been down for some years now but the last thing I did was install a set of Skunk2, 2" lowering springs and loved it! The look, the ride, the handling. But I'm not sure what my next suspension build will be so I'm up in the air also. I'll be following your progress.

Note that all this I did was on stock ITR shocks.

It's not as bad as the term "dumped"... lol... which just sounds like someone taking a $h!t. Pretty much the reason I left the Suspension forum a couple years ago... :D

Talk about full retard.

Hmm.. I think you may like my setup then. Great for daily!

It's H&R Sport Springs (ITR Spec) on Tokico Illumina (Stock ITR Shocks should work fine too)

Wheels are 16x7 Mugen MF10 +42 / Tires are 205/45R16

agree with sports set on low with stock springs if you just want the look and a bit tighter feel.

if you run sticky tires and do any kind of hard driving get the ground controls and up the rate.

500/450 is a good street combo that won't snap the rear around in the rain but is also quick on the cones.

Thanks for your imput guys! If I got a spring setup I would most likely go with the H&R sports, but Im very drawn to the Koni Sport shocks/struts. I think they will give me what Im looking for (ride, handling, STANCE).

cost to benefit ratio is

stock-koni/gc-amr-moton

everything else is somewhere in there but isn't really a strong value versus these. the warranty and ease of repair is a big BIG deal when you buy suspension. the last thing you want is $1000 coilovers that can't be serviced or warrantied

Don't even bother mentioning Moton in the same thread where little kids are talking about stance.
