Default Just enjoying my mild allmotor buildup..... (recent impressions/ observations)

I was just driving my car recently and have been very pleased with how it's running. I often see people asking questions about how to mod their car to get higher whp, but nobody seems to feel like they want to sacrifice reliability.

I bought this car in April of this year. It was pretty much stock at that time with 35000 miles on it. It now has 52000 miles on it, and I've attended a couple lapping events, a season at autox, and daily driven it ever since.

I haven't dyno'd or tuned it recently (since the cam install), and I have a hondata s200 equipped p28 + 290-450cc injectors sitting here I could throw on - but haven't had the time or disposable $ to get around to doing it. Hopefully one of these days I'll get around to posting up some new plots. In the meantime, the old bolt-on dyno was 177.3whp/ 126.3 ft-lb. I hope that the cams haven't lost anything as far as peak goes - it feels like the midrange has increased, but that isn't confirmable on anything but butt-dyno currently.

Well, I can honestly say my itr is about as much fun as I've had in modding with the utmost in reliability, and I'll share with you what I've done:

2001 itr #0021
falken azenis (205/50/15) all around
cf hood
rear seats removed
aem cai
hytech header
custom 2.5" exhaust with apex n1 turbo can + y-pipe cutout (no cat)
toda spec a cams (untuned)
st corsa cam gears (0,0)
ats 4.929 final drive
toda clutch (street) and flywheel
Prothane upper motor mount inserts
Energy Suspension lower motor mount inserts
Apex N1 (99 spec) coilovers with conical pillow ball mounts at all 4 corners (off the shelf rates)
Spoon Calipers up front, APP lines and Endless pads all around
racing hart cp035's (15x7.5 F) and rota slipstreams (15x6.5 R)
Phillips 4300k HID low beams
Sparco hood pins
AC and Power Steering retained. Belts never removed.
eg seats

This car is honestly about as much fun as you can have allmotor reliable. I say "about" because this motor will likely get ctr pistons, and maybe a mugen intake in the future... I'd LOVE to have toda itb's, but that's a LONG way off as far as my wallet is concerned. In the meantime, I just wanted to express how seat of the pants enjoyable this buildup is. No reliability issues. Total daily driver, and easy to drive. Hell, this buildup and total package makes a mediocre driver (at best) look like a hero. I went from dead last placings in SM a while back to somewhere in the middle of the pack - CONSISTENTLY. Not bad for basically an unlimited class, eh?

I'm sure there are easier and cheaper ways to get the same results. Simply subsitute skunk or jun stage 1's, and whatever spring/ shock combo you prefer. Brakes are optional. Overall, I give this setup in every way.

With the above mods and gas light on E, I ran this time (best of 9 runs) when taking it's innaugural visit to the drag strip recently on a low 50's temp. night:

rt .286
60' 2.302
330 6.102
1/8 9.254
mph 78.17
1000 11.980
1/4 14.282
mph 98.06
(removed jack + spare and tools etc from car, open header/ cutout, launch @ 5k rpm, 18psi F)

awsome
how do you like those Apex-i 99 spec N1s, i'm running the same set up but with Volk TE37 17"7.5" with a 205/40/ZR17 set of tires. my car is a little lower then it probably should be. but the ride gets pretty rough at times but i manage that. and absolutely love them/set i have with them when i'm driving very fast on sweepers and just about any other kind of corner/turn.
anyway, where abouts to you put your dampener setting at when you're driving it on the street, and how much PSI do you usually go with on the streets daily driving it.

Yup i concur; Kenny's car runs great with those (untuned) Toda As...now if he'd just ditch that AEM for a Mugen intake

Sorry I haven't replied sooner. I haven't been online in a day or so...

I'm quite pleased with the apex n1's (99 spec). A buddy of mine had them and said they were too harsh for him, so I got them from him for an excellent deal. (THANKS typer76!) The rear spring rates are a little too soft for my tastes what with the autoxing I do and all, but the ride is like a caddy imho. I run 35psi all around. And for daily driving I have the settings on full soft (completely ccw) all around. For track or autox, I stiffen it up accordingly and play with tire pressures. I had been intending to buy some 8k, 12k and possibly 18k springs to play with but have procrastinated..... My car is pretty low - about 1 finger's gap between tire and fender all around. But it's about as high as I can raise it, since I have switched over to the newer apexi conical pillowball mounts. (Thanks yellowblur! )

I can't necessarily agree that the ATS final helps in the 1320. It FEELS like it does, but iirc, dr pooface did some tests and found that straightline acceleration was the same with the same redline (compared to stock final). It can't hurt though! At autox, it OWNZ!

Yeah, I want the mugen intake soooo badly! AND the AIR/ Endyn intake manifold!

Nah, I have a lot of miscellaneous stuff in this car. Although untuned, I'm pretty pleased with it. Please keep the mods secret though - as I'm paranoid about theft locally. What times did you run at Commerce in your car?

Yes.
