ITR #98-0106 was stolen last night..
Well, I got home at about 2am last night and the car was still there.. Go out to go to work this morning at 9am and the car is gone.. My civic was parked in front of it and it was untouched. I called the Howard County, MD (I live in Columbia) police and filed a report, and called the insurance company. I'm waiting to here back from a claims rep right now.
The worst part, and actually the somewhat fishy part, of all of this is that it had been up for sale for about 3 weeks and a gentlemen from Ohio sent me a deposit yesterday and was paying me a substantial amount more than the insurance is probably going to want to. So now I have to let him know its gone. Here's the fishy thing though. Another guy, from Northern Virginia, was supposed to come look at today. He had flaked on coming to see it over the weekend though. He definitely had my address (as is customary when giving potential buyers directions to come see the car). We'll see if he shows up today or not.
Ugh.. this really sucks..
To answer the questions that I'm sure will pop up.. Yes, it gets garage time a lot of the time, but we've been remodeling the basement and needed the garage to do cutting/staining/etc so it's been outside a few days.. No lojack, no alarm other than the factory one. Car was basically stock, with a JDM 4-1, Carsound cat, and my stereo in it..
I guess I have to get ready to go head to head with the insurance company now..
Sorry Victor, add this one to the list I guess..
Anybody think it'll show up again, as in will they recover at least most of it? Does that happen most of the time?

Do you have his name? or Phone #? I mean I could see him giving a false name and address but do you have his # on Caller ID? Maybe one of us here can match it to an address and some MD/NOVA folk can go on a stakeout.
Sorry for your loss
Mike - Who is Very Tired of seeing these types of posts and thinks we need to do something about the Theft problems ourself, a sting or something.

Unfortunately, without a tracking system R's rarely come back salvageable. I've read about R's being totally disassembled within 24 hours.
Sorry to hear about your loss - this is rediculous.

Dam that suck, man. I feel your pain, because my R got broken into about a month ago and they tried to steal it but, instead of stealing it they messed it all up. My R has been at the dealer for at least a month now.

Everyone remember that when selling your car locally, meet the prospective buyers in a mall parking lot or something. Never give out your actual address. I know that it's hard not to trust people sometimes, but this is the only way to prevent the theft. Sorry for your loss.

My sympathy, ITR owners have to be forever vigilant! You can't let your guard down for even a couple of days, always garage the car.

Thanks for the condolences everyone..
I'm not sure if the NoVA guy who was supposed to look at it had anything to do with it or not.. He didn't show today and didn't call either though.. So my friends and I are going to do some checking into that today..
My insurance company is State Farm.. They've generally been pretty good to me, but if the car isn't recovered it should be some interesting bargaining..
I did talk to my roommate this afternoon finally.. she left for the airport at 6:30am, but thought we might've dropped it off to have the stereo pulled(i had an appointment for that tomorrow, but she thought it was today) because it was gone when she left.. but that made her think nothing of it, so she didn't wake me up.. so, it was stolen between 2am and 6:30am..

I am very sorry about your loss. But I really have to get something off my chest...Why in God's name would you give someone directions to come see the car at your house!? Dude thats what K mart parking lots and Gas stations are for! To meet strangers that may want to buy your car!
I agree with Mike M's view that we (the owners) should set up stings if possible. But that also means that we (the owners) have to do our part. And if the members of this board that have seen countless theft postings about ITR's (for years now) and Honda's in general don't get the message yet, then I don't know if they ever will!
Owning an ITR is serious sh*t, it's not something that you can go about with a "it'll never happen to me" mentality. IT WILL HAPPEN , IF YOU LEAVE YOUR CAR IN A VULNERABLE SPOT THEY WILL STEAL IT! It's actually a pretty simple science. Yet, unfortunately lots of itr's continue falling to this naive mistake that uninformed/indiferent owners are making.
