my guess,is that you have to re-chip it. but being a 96+ecu, i can only think of two companies, mugen and spoon. i'm sure there is atleast one other companies out there.

I thought the old Field SFC-Vtec could do that. Just speed limiter--not rev limiter, mind you.

I read in another thread that you would like to keep the stock program, but just disable the speed limiter. Does anyone know what would happen if the VSS input to the ECU were cut (or more elegantly pulled from the ECU plug)? The gauge cluster should be independent of the ECU. I have not tried this, but it may be an option.

If you cut the VSS wire to the ECU you will get a CEL, which means no vtec and a 6500rpm redline (safe mode)

There are a few simple ways, 1. get yourself an R-spec vtec controller (which usually come with a plug'N'play harness, this removes the speed limiter and allows the ECu to run stock, or 2. Get an Apex'i RSM which also removes the speed limiter and doesnt effect ECu settings...i have both on my JDM ITR!!!!!

actually, have you ever tried taking your car up to 180? Me and my friend is both using JDM P73 ECUs and both of us has been well into 200 km/h.....we did it just to test the 180 km/h limit....to our surprises, it just kept climbing. Pretty sure that my ECU is stock.
