Greddy oil pressure gauge quirk??
I just noticed this today, when driving at a steady accelerating rate in 2nd or 3rd gear (not WOT) the oil pressure needle rises steadily to 6kg/cm (85psi) but as soon as it hits 6kg it drops immediatley back to 5.5kg/cm (78psi) and remains there...ie this is maximum pressure...when driving at WOT in 4th or 5th gear it rises to 6kg, again drops to 5.5 but then rises and remains at 6kg/cm...it seems to be working fine otherwise. It idles at 25 > 28psi..usually at 28 (2kg/cm) and the needle sweeps very smoothly, like ist not jumpy or anything. Is this normal or is there something up with it?

Yep! Same thing here.

That would most likely be when the VTEC solenoid lets oil into the mechanism that switches from the lower to higher cam lobes, which in a stock ITR ECU is @ 6K rpm.

maybe, but it relieves pressure regardless of the current RPM. The oil pressure ALWAYS stays below 6 kg/c cm (which can be reached at 2000 rpm on up, depending on oil temp).

Is the bypass just the bypass in the oil filter itself? That was my original impression. I don't know what other bypass exists.

there is a relief valve on the oil pump - it's number five in the above diagram. </TD></TR></TABLE>
Thanks a lot! I was wondering where that was.
