Ideal Oil Pressure gauge readings?
I am using a Greddy oil pressure gauge hooked up into a GREX sensor attachment (bolts where your oil filter normally goes) for the sensor.
I have never dealt with oil pressure before....I just installed it last night, and after driving around today I see that the gauge reads at about 4.0-5.0 kg/cm2 at normal driving and goes up to about 6.5 kg/cm2 when I get on it a little. When I put the car in neutral or when idling, the pressure goes down as low as 1.5 kg/cm2.
Should I worry that the pressure is this low? What kind of numbers should I be getting (eg. is my car acting normal right now)?

Re: Ideal Oil Pressure gauge readings? (degradated)
Does that oil filter attachment thingy also have a spot for an oil temp sender? Actualyly is that the same thing as seen at the bottom of this page here http://www.greddy.com/products/OilCoolerKit.htm ??
I have an autometer oil pressure gauge and my oil pressure is usually aruond 74psi when driving around.. it drops down to like 25 i believe at idle...
What kind of car do you have? My pressure doesn't go up any higher when i get on it than when i'm just cruising... (99 civic si)

Re: Ideal Oil Pressure gauge readings? (Xerxes)
yep...that's exactly the piece. It does have a seperate port for oil temperature, but I have it plugged right now since I'm not using another gauge.
Just for reference: 1 kg/cm2 = 14.2 psi...
so if your pressure is 74 psi while driving around, that equates to 5.21 kg/cm2 (about the readings I get too)..
25 psi for you = 1.76 kg/cm2.....I noticed that mine gets down there too, the lowest I've seen it while the car is running is 1.5 kg/cm2.
Car is a 2000 Integra LS.
Unlike you, I do notice my pressure increasing when I get on it...usually at WOT it goes up to about 6.0 kg/cm2.
Besides that, it looks like our cars are acting similarly...I just worry when the pressure is really low.....
