Re: Exhausts.... (TypeR#1111)
So SMSP has to be welded. I have a feeling that jacks its price right out of the range I was in!!
Anyone have any hytech exhaust info??? I was unable to find much, not nearly as much as the other exhausts, especially smsp.

Re: Exhausts.... (mantic6t9)
I was inferring that according to the dyno chart, that extra backpressure resulted in quite a hp/tq loss. I would have thought it would have been less of a loss!

Re: Exhausts.... (1107)
I'm starting to think Fujitsubo RM-01A or new T1R.
Hytech - too much, smsp - too much once you pay for welds.
Nice pic above! Which kakimoto is that? N1?

Re: Exhausts.... (George Knighton)
I have my vote on the T1R exhaust after hearing ITRGURU's car today. His car sounded like an airplane when he floored it past me.
Quality is top-notch and everything fitted perfectly (2nd batch). Furthermore, it's not too big and visible.

Re: Exhausts.... (IMJUSTBORED)
i got an idea keep the stock exhaust and get a test pipe, sounds barley even noticable ,cheaper, and will yield you more HP per dollar than any intake exhaust you'll ever buy.

Besides there are alot of us that can't LEGALLY run a testpipe and or don't want to run into any trouble or a Federal fine.

Re: Exhausts.... (1GreyTeg)
Testpipes will make your exhaust louder and yes even the stock setup will gain a few DB's with just a testpipe. But, to alot of us it is not an option nor is it worth it.
A high Flow cat is a better idea, Carsound makes the 94006 and you can get it from Mike at IPS racing in my SIG or a modified version from Dave SMSP.
The proven performers for our motors accompanying a GOOD header are of course the SMSP and Hytech. There are quite a few more but, the aformentioned have shown the best gains and least restrictions.
As per sound on the ITR, that I have personally experienced, I feel on the rating scale of 1 being Stock and 10 being loudest I'd rate the following:
Spoon N-1=7 definately as loud as the Apexi N-1 but, slightly deeper tone
Spoon Sport=4 relatively quiet, similar to a Comptech
Thermal=7 Deep down low and loud at the top, I really like this one though, just not for My car
Apexi N-1=8 Just plain LOUD and without a cat it is Very obnoxious, Sorry Oscar
Mugen=3 Just a bit more than stock, nice tone
5Zigen=6 to 7 Deep but, not as nice as the Thermal and has the infamous Bottleneck as a few other here mentioned do as well
EVO=6 I actually had this on an LS and liked it for about 2 weeks low, deep and then it gets progressively louder... I had some
manufacturing issues with this one and Do NOT reccomend it
Custom Magnaflow=8 and Crappy
Comptech=4 deeper than stock and pretty nice, I'd rate it a step below the Mugen IMHO though
Fujitsubo RM01A=5 but, was a sound file from their site and Not a realworld representation, It IS very promising, Deeper than stock but Not loud or obnoxious, Akin to the Mugen IMHO
I have been on a hunt for a catback that sounds slightly louder and deeper and more aggressive than stock. I require at least a 60mm catback and No or minimal bottlenecks if I am going to spend what I find these to be priced at. I previously had set on the Skunk2 Megapower but, have since heard that it is louder than what I may desire. I was very pleased with the Mugen Twinloop and will continue to find a setup that is quiet and similar in sound and tone.
I may Just NOT get a catback since I can't decide on one and just don't see huge gains with one sans the Hytech and SMSP. I can't go with the SMSP since it comes un-assembled and I do NOT have a good TIG welding muffler guy nearbye. Hytech is another option and pricewise competitive but,t he wait with much of anything from them is long and tiresome.
I will settle soon but, I just have to listen a little more and decide for myself...
BTW 172WHP is similar to what some people post when just running a Good header and HF cat... I just don't know if the deal is worth it.
This is NOT an easy task, Good luck,
A.

Re: Exhausts.... (1GreyTeg)
Thanks for the great info above. I'm realizing that this is not an easy task at all. I just keep coming back to the Fujitsubo and T1R... I guess I'll have to wait and see about those two.
George - What exhaust do you have, what was used on the dyno graph you posted?
Chris - who is happy with his carsound cat from smsp and has no need for a test pipe instead of an exhaust.

Re: Exhausts.... (Ross)
Hi 1Greyteg,
I have a custom 2.5 Magnaflow/Carsound exhaust on my R and it wasn't much louder than stock (until the cam install). It had a nice deep tone, too.
The sound volume and qualitywill depend upon which resonator/muffler combo you go with. I got mine from Dave at SMSP and he set me up with the combo that was the quietest (longest resonator and a not quite straight through oval muffler). Nice deep, strong sound!

Re: Exhausts.... (zer0zer0 TypeR)
My Kakimoto R 70mm is not loud at all. The N1 look damn nice and if there is no bottle neck, then it is even better.
But after all, I think exhaust sound is all depend on personal taste. The best way is to hear them in person yourself.

Re: Exhausts.... (1107)
I have the T1R N1 catback and its loud. The noise is louder when you dont have rear seats! In the Chicago Cruise #2video that was the sound of the T1, Its extremely loud at low rpms.
