Advice to everyone...COVER YOUR VIN TAG with somekind of business card. A good friend of mind told me that. They can't get your VIN # if they can't see it.

But overall...that's really fucked up

this is technically illegal, but on the subject don't bother covering up the VIN on the dash if you don't cover up the rest of the visible ones.

short list:
Between door and rear qtr
between hood and each fender
between taillights and hatch
engine block (it IS visible from under the car)
and of course the dash.

Unfortunately, VIN numbers can be obtained from any number of places if you know the right people... DMV, Insurance carrier, dealership purchased from, etc

very true, but you have no control over that. At least you can cover up all the visible VIN locations.

Smitdog, just be EXTRA careful? Is your car garage kept? If not, I would try and find a garage or park in your backyard if possible. I would definitely find the name and address of this POS Thief who is targeting your car. Mike M's idea is good. So is the paintball one. It's just BS that they can get your VIN and go make a key. It is just so stupid. Why don't we just leave the keys in the ignition and the doors unlocked. F'n thieves

Yes very very, upsetting. My freind neede a new key for his R and we went to an Acra dealer and they parts guy says, "Vin, Please". And that was it, key cut a couple mins later!!

but yeah, that really sucks about the theif thing.. I wonder where the hell they got the VIN at.. keep a close eye on it, and DEFINITLY get lojack.. at least if the car doesn't get recovered, you'll get extra money..
