sup guys, tossed a b18c5 into a honda crx and converted obd1. what spark plugs should i be using though?

for the last month now, iv been using the ngk coppers which are bkre7 i believe is the part number. and i just search 2001 type r for the database at advanced auto.

since iv had the car running, the plugs foul out quick. anywhere from 300 miles to 1k miles -.- and iv just blamed my driving due to 4.97 final drive/lsd and beating the motor high rpms.

I decided to look up a 1998 type r in the database today though and it shows 1 heat range hotter for spark plugs. the ngk copper is like bkre6.

^ any reasoning behind the hotter plug in the older b18c5 motors? pretty sure im washing my walls while using the 7s cause they foul out quick...

The OEM plug for b18c5 motors is ngk laser platinum #5555 pfr6g11.

That's the only plug I would ever run in a stock motor, I've never had issues with them. They are rated for 100,000 miles in the Honda service manual before they are required to be changed, so you should probably get better service life then the copper plugs you are currently running.

Your motor will probably be happier also. Best of luck.

Not a fan of plats or irids. Copper work just fine, just didn't think about the heat range until today. Was thinking about it and remembered my VTEC solenoid has the plug in front.. implying old. That's y I searched for a 98 and bam showed the 6. Ended up buying a pair of copper in the 6 but will have to wait and see how they hold up

On my stock C5 with I/H/E the cooler BKR73-11's worked better than the 6's. I swapped plugs back and forth 3 or 4 times in a day and liked the 7's better. As far as the fouling issue, never had that problem. $.02

Stock plugs are NGK laser platinum. NGK V-power nickle plugs are fine unless you don't like changing plugs.

The ITR in the US started at a hotter heat range 6, but moved to a 7 in 2000 (I think). All the JDM ITRs ran 7's from day one because of their higher compression. If you don't have the original OEM ECU, then picking the correct heat range will be trial & error. Cooler plugs (7's) will run better in hotter temps or when racing, but may run a little richer at idle and emissions may be worse.

I have a 97 JDM B18C and run laser platinum 7's on my chipped ECU. They are super cheap on ebay.

the ngk coppers i can get for 1$ a piece, and its less then 5mins to swap all 4. some days i just drive for 1hr around town and the highway and kick up to 100 like its nothin, and other days its like 25mins in traffic doin 50ish.

i plan to check the 6s tmrw i installed, dont think they are fouled out like the 7s iv been running for the last few months.

and you say 7s run better in hotter temps? with my 7lb flywheel/4.97 final drive... i beat my 0-50mph at every light lol, and the motor is deff HOT, and u would think the plugs would self clean in a sense, but nope.

hopefully the 6s held up good, need to get octane booster and beat the car after i check cause the dude put 89 instead of 93 when i filled up yesterday -.- and instantly noticed power loss so been driving normal lol. will update

I'm surprised that no one mentioned about spark plugs gaping. Please check your gaps and make sure they are in spec.

They are all in spec for gap. and honestly ngk's come pre gapped at .4 or .44. however i have noticed after pulling my plugs out, that the gap is anywhere from .2-.35 with the assumption of carbon buildup being the reasoning

the 6s i ran are currently holding up better. cant say the porcelain is white but its bown which is normal.

parked the rex in the driveway so havnt touched it since lol
