Default Wot above 4k the tach cuts off and no vtec?

When ever i get on my car over 4k the tach will sudenly go back to 0 until i let off the gas? What causes this?

I also have no vtec, i am not low on oil dead on full, its throwing no cel codes, the sylnoid does click and work when you hook a 12volt source to it, but it does not click into vtec? Why is this happening? The screen is clean and the head is getting oil, ther are no oil issues with this motor.

I notice a lot of black smoke in the vtec crossover, its fuel i can smell it bad, not only that but it back fires something feirce. It looks like a semi truck or a turbo deisel wot off the line thats how bad the black smoke is at vtec.

Head was rebuilt maybe has 10 hours on it.

Motor is a b17 bottom end with a 94 gsr head. running obd 1 p28 wit stock gsr b18c1 map. compression is 230 across the board.

All in all i am not getting any cel codes. Would running lean such as a blown throttle body seal or a vacum leak in the intake mani, inbetween the head and throttlebody cause this?

I had a problem somewhat similar to this with my 92 GSR. You could try changing out your igniter in your distributor. I know when my igniter was bad my tach would wack out, and it would fall in and out of vtec so i suspect your problem could be the same.

Hope you figure it out.

yes distributors are really sensetive but have a mechanic check your timming really well.
and also the plugs on distributors go bad double check them
another thing to look at is the speed sensor....
try a stock ecu from a budy of yours could be a bad chip...

swaped out the chip and nothing, ill try it again and turn it back to stock and see. Are you talking about the plug wires? I dont see how the dizzy would cause vtec not to enguage.

I guess from here my next question would be if all the hardware was reinstalled in the rebuilt head. Also isn't there an oil pressure sensor on the vtec solenoid that needs to sense pressure in order to engage the solenoid??? I'm not sure about this but I seem to remember something. Anyway keep up the good work you'll get it eventually
