will A/C compressor turn on without freon?
i have a 93 integra, and i have had all my a/c components taken off for a swap for about a year.......now I've put everything back onto the car but off of another integra beacause my mom threw away alot of the parts i needed for it so i wired up the compressor and i just wanted to see if it would come on even without any freon in the system....nothing......maybe i have another problem i dunno i was just wondering if it has to have fluid in it in order for it to even operate all i know is normally when a compressor is bad it locks up or knocks or something but i don't have that problem..........j/w sorry if this is a stupid question.......no flaming please........

When the system has been out for that long, the lubricant inside the compressor will dry out, so even if it did run, it would have run for an instant. Read the owners manual. It says if you're not going to use it for a long time, run it occasionally to lubricate the seals. You'll need to get new o-rings and a compressor.
if the system does not have any freon (which should come with lubricating oil) in it, the compressor will not run. I forgot the #s, but vDo is correct. It needs a certain amount of pressure for it to run, to protect the system.
Not to mention the dryer probably needs to be replaced due to contamination.

Re: (Vtak DOHCTA)
My ls had a hole in one of the AC line and had not been working for over a year according to the previous owner. I replaced the AC line with a salvaged one, charged it up, and the AC works great.
The compressor did not run while the system was not pressurized though, as previously stated.

good deal so i was on the right track with that..i was kinda skeptical about it but i know there's only one wire to run to the ac compressor so it's hard to not do it right..
